حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الْيَهُودَ إِذَا سَلَّمُوا فَإِنَّمَا تَقُولُ السَّامُ عَلَيْكَ فَقُلْ عَلَيْكَ

'Abdullah ibn Dinar said: I heard Ibn 'Umar say; The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "When the Jews greet you, they only say, as-saamu 'alayka (death be upon you), so say: “alayk (upon you)'."
