حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدٌ الْعَمِّىُّ عَنْ أَبِي الصِّدِّيقِ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَخَّصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأُمَّهَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الذَّيْلِ شِبْرًا فَاسْتَزَدْنَهُ فَزَادَهُنَّ شِبْرًا آخَرَ فَجَعَلْنَهُ ذِرَاعًا فَكُنَّ يُرْسِلْنَ إِلَيْنَا نَذْرَعُ لَهُنَّ ذِرَاعًا
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4683
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said; The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) granted a concession to the Mothers of the Believers allowing them to lengthen their hems by a handspan (to drag along the ground), then they asked for more so he added another handspan and they made it a cubit. They used to ask us (for garments) and we would measure an extra cubit for them.
