حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ اتَّخَذَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَكَانَ يَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِمَّا يَلِي كَفَّهُ فَاتَّخَذَهُ النَّاسُ فَرَمَى بِهِ وَاتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4677
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) acquired a ring of gold, and he use I to place the stone next to his palm, and the people began (to wear rings too). Then lie threw it away and acquired a ring of silver.
