حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ صَحِبْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَّا حَدِيثًا كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأُتِيَ بِجُمَّارَةٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ مِنْ الشَّجَرِ شَجَرَةً مَثَلُهَا كَمَثَلِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ فَأَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَقُولَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا أَصْغَرُ الْقَوْمِ فَسَكَتُّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4599
It was narrated that Mujaahid said: I accompanied Ibn 'Umar to Madeenah, and I did not hear him narrate any hadeeth from the Prophet (PBUH) except one. He said: We were with the Prophet (PBUH) and some heart of palm was brought to him- He said: "Among the trees is one that is like the Muslim." I wanted to say that it is the date palm, but i saw that I was the youngest of the people, so l remained silent. Then the Messenger of Allah (f- said "It is the date palm."
