حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُبَايِعُ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً فَيُلَقِّنُ أَحَدَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4565
It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) would accept the oath of allegiance with the pledge to hear and obey, then he would say: "As much as you as you are able to." On one occasion he said: And he would prompt one of us to say: "As much as I am able to."
