مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4498

It was narrated from Ibn Umar that the Jews brought to the prophet (PBUH) a man and a women from among them who has committed zina. He said, "What do you find in your Book?" They said: We blacken their faces and they will be disgraced. He said: "You are lying in it is [mentioned] stoning. Bring the Torah and recite it if you are telling the truth." So they brought the Torah and they brought a one-eyed reciter who was called Ibn Sooriya, and he recited it until, when he reached some part of it, he placed his hand over it. It was said: Lift your hand. So he lifted his hand and there it (the verse of stoning) appeared. He, or they, said: O Muhammad, in it is [mentioned] stoning but we used to conceal it (and avoid talking about it) amongst Ourselves. Then the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) ordered that they be stoned. He [Ibn 'Umar] said; And I saw him (the man) trying to shield her from the stones with his body.
