حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قِيلَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ فَرَغَ مِنْ بَدْرٍ عَلَيْكَ الْعِيرَ لَيْسَ دُونَهَا شَيْءٌ قَالَ فَنَادَاهُ الْعَبَّاسُ وَهُوَ أَسِيرٌ فِي وَثَاقِهِ لَا يَصْلُحُ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِمَ قَالَ لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ وَعَدَكَ إِحْدَى الطَّائِفَتَيْنِ وَقَدْ أَعْطَاكَ مَا وَعَدَكَ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 2875
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: It was said to the Prophet (PBUH) when he had finished at Badr; You should pursue the caravan’ for there is nothing to prevent you capturing it. al~ Abbas, who was among the prisoners in his chains, called out to him: You will never be able to do that. The Prophet (PBUH) said to him: "Why not?" He said: Because Allah promised you one of the two groups, and He has given you what He promised you .
