مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 4382
It was narrated that 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ood said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) taught me the tashahhud in the middle 0f the prayer and at the end of it. [The narrator said:] We memorized it from 'Abdullah when he told us that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) taught it tp him- He said: He used to say, when he sat on his left hip in the nuddle of the prayer and at the end; "All compliments, prayers an d pure words are due to Allah, peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us, and upon the righteous slaves of Allah I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.” Then if it was in the middle of the prayer, he would get up when he finished the tashahhud, and if it was the end of the prayer, he would offer supplication (du'aa') after the prayer as Allah willed he should, then he would say the tasleem.
