مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 2077
It was narrated that 'Amir bin Wathilah said: I said to Ibn 'Abbas: Your people are saying that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)trotted ( rami - around the Ka'bah) and that it is Sumiah. He said: My people are telling the truth and they are lying. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) trotted (around the Ka'bah) but it is not Sunnah. He came [to Makkah] when the mushrikeen were on Mount Qu'aiqi'an and saying that they [the Muslims] were emaciated and exhausted, so he told them to trot around the House in order to show them [the mushrikeen] that they were not exhausted.
