حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ النَّاسَ غَضُّوا مِنْ الثُّلُثِ إِلَى الرُّبُعِ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الثُّلُثُ كَثِيرٌ
مسند امام احمد بن حنبل · Hadith 2034
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: People should reduce it [the bequest] from one third to one quarter [of the estate], because the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "One third is a lot.”
