أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَکَمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ عُمَرَ کَانَ جَعَلَ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمًا يَعْتَکِفُهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَسَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِکَ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَعْتَکِفَهُ
سنن نسائی · Hadith 3858
It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that ‘Umar had vowed — during the Jahili)yah — to spend a day in ‘Itkikaf. He asked the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم about that, and he commanded him to perform the ‘Itkikaf. (Sahih)
