حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَکَرَ رَمَضَانَ فَضَرَبَ بِيَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ الشَّهْرُ هَکَذَا وَهَکَذَا وَهَکَذَا ثُمَّ عَقَدَ إِبْهَامَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ فَصُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ أُغْمِيَ عَلَيْکُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ ثَلَاثِينَ
صحیح مسلم · Hadith 2499
Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported Allah's Messenger ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) as saying in connection with Ramadan: Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fast till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it.
