حَدَّثَنَا اإِسْمَاعِیْلُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَیِي مَا لِک’‘، عَنْ یَذِیْدَ بْنِ زِیَادٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ کَعْبٍ الْقُرَ ظِيَّ قَالَ، قَالَ مُعَاوِیَۃُ بْنُ أَبِيْ سُفْیَانَ ؓ عَلَی الْمِنْبَرِ: (إِنَّہُ لَا مَانعِ لِمَا أَعْطَیْتَ ، وَلَا مُعْطِیَ لَمَا مَنَعَ اللہُ، وَلَا یَفْعَ ُذَا الْجَدَّ مِنْہُ الْجَدُّ ، وَمَنْ یُرِ دِاللہُ بِہِ خَیْرًا یُفَقَّھْہُ فِي الدَّیْنِ)) سَمِعْتُ ھَؤُلَاءِ الْکَلِمَاتِ مَنَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ عَلَی ھَذِہِ اْلَٔا عْوَادِ
الأدب المفرد · Hadith 666
Mu'awiya ibn Abi Sufyan said on the minbar, "None can withhold what You give nor give what Allah withholds. The effort of a person who makes an effort does not benefit him. When Allah desires good for a person, He gives him understanding in the deen." He added, "I heard these words from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace."
