أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ: أَنَّ عُمَرَ إِنَّمَا رَجَعَ بِالنَّاسِ عَنْ حَدِيثِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، يَعْنِي: حِينَ خَرَجَ إِلَى الشَّامِ، فَبُلِّغَ وُقُوعَ الطَّاعُونِ بِهَا.

Tell us Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salem: that Omar came back but people talk about Abdul Rahman bin Auf, means: when he went to the Levant, reaching the occurrence of the plague.
