حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ وَرْدَانَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَی النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الْحَجُّ فِي کُلِّ عَامٍ فَسَکَتَ ثُمَّ قَالُوا أَفِي کُلِّ عَامٍ فَقَالَ لَا وَلَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ فَنَزَلَتْ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَائَ إِنْ تُبْدَ لَکُمْ تَسُؤْکُمْ

It was narrated that 'Ali said: "When the following was revealed: "And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, for whoever can bear the way." They asked: '0 Messenger of Allah, is Hajj every Year? He remained silent. They asked: 'Is it every year? He said: 'No. I had said yes, It wouId have become obligatory.' Then the following was revealed: "0 you who believe! Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble. (Hasan)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ قَالَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الْحَجُّ فِي کُلِّ عَامٍ قَالَ لَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ وَلَوْ وَجَبَتْ لَمْ تَقُومُوا بِهَا وَلَوْ لَمْ تَقُومُوا بِهَا عُذِّبْتُمْ

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "They said: '0 Messenger of Allah, is Hajj (required) every year?' He said: ' I were to say yes, it would have become obligatory, and if it were to become obligatory, you would not (be able to) do it, and if you did not do it you would be Punished.''' (Sahih)

حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سِنَانٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ الْأَقْرَعَ بْنَ حَابِسٍ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الْحَجُّ فِي کُلِّ سَنَةٍ أَوْ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً قَالَ بَلْ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَمَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ فَتَطَوَّعَ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that Aqre' bin Habis asked the Prophet "0 Messenger of Allah, is Hajj (required) every year, or just once?" He said: "Rather it is just once. And whoever can perform Hajj voluntarily, let him do so." (Sahih)
