حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ عَنْ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ أَتَی النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَتَأَخَّرُ فِي صَلَاةِ الْغَدَاةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ فُلَانٍ لِمَا يُطِيلُ بِنَا فِيهَا قَالَ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَطُّ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا مِنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَالَ يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ مِنْکُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ فَأَيُّکُمْ مَا صَلَّی بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُجَوِّزْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمْ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْکَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

It was narrated that Abu Mas'ud said: "A man came to the Prophet P.B.U.H and said: '0 Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H I stay behind and do not perform the morning prayer (in congregation) because of so-and-so, for he makes it too long for us.' I never saw the Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H Preaching with such anger as he did that day. He said: '0 people! There are among you those who repel others. Whoever among you leads others in prayer, let him keep it short, for among them are those who are weak and elderly, and those who have pressing needs.''(Sahih)

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ وَحُمَيْدُ بْنُ مَسْعَدَةَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوجِزُ وَيُتِمُّ الصَّلَاةَ

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik said: "The Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H used to make his prayer brief but perfect." (Sahih)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ أَنْبَأَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ صَلَّی مُعَاذُ بْنُ جَبَلٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلَاةَ الْعِشَائِ فَطَوَّلَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَانْصَرَفَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا فَصَلَّی فَأُخْبِرَ مُعَاذٌ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ مُنَافِقٌ فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ ذَلِکَ الرَّجُلَ دَخَلَ عَلَی رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ مَا قَالَ لَهُ مُعَاذٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تَکُونَ فَتَّانًا يَا مُعَاذُ إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ بِالنَّاسِ فَاقْرَأْ بِالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا وَسَبِّحْ اسْمَ رَبِّکَ الْأَعْلَی وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَی وَاقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّکَ

It was narrated that Jabir said: "Mu' adh bin Jabal Al-Ansari led his companions in the 'Isha' prayer and he made it long. A man among us went away and prayed by himself. Mu`adh was told about that and he said: 'He is a hypocrite.' When the man heard about that, he went to the Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H and told him what Mu'adh had said to him. The Prophet P.B.U.H said: 'Do you want to be a cause of Fitnah (trial. tribulation), 0 Mu'adh? When you lead the people in prayer, recite "By the sun and its brightness," and "Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High: and "By the night as it envelopes," and "Recite in the Name of your Lord.' (Sahih)

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَکْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ کَانَ آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَمَّرَنِي عَلَی الطَّائِفِ قَالَ لِي يَا عُثْمَانُ تَجَاوَزْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَاقْدِرْ النَّاسَ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمْ الْکَبِيرَ وَالصَّغِيرَ وَالسَّقِيمَ وَالْبَعِيدَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ

It was narrated that Mutarrif bin ‘Abdullâh bin Shikhkhir said: “I heard ‘Uthmân bin Abul-’As say: ‘The last thing that the Prophet enjoined on me when he appointed me governor of Tâ’if was that he said: “0 ‘Uthmân! Be tolerable in prayer and estimate the people based upon the weakest among them, for among them are the elderly, the young, the sick, those who live far from the Masjid, and those who have pressing needs.” (Sahih)

عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ: ← مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، ← مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَقَ ← إِسْمَعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ← أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ حَدَّثَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أَنَّ آخِرَ مَا قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَمَمْتَ قَوْمًا فَأَخِفَّ بِهِمْ

‘Uthmân bin Abul-’As narrated that the last thing the Messenger of Allah P.B.U.H enjoined on him was that he said: “When you lead people, keep it short for them.” (Sahih)
