أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَکِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُسَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ کَثِيرٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ صَلَّی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَقَالَ يَا فُلَانُ أَلَا تُحَسِّنُ صَلَاتَکَ أَلَا يَنْظُرُ الْمُصَلِّي کَيْفَ يُصَلِّي لِنَفْسِهِ إِنِّي أُبْصِرُ مِنْ وَرَائِي کَمَا أُبْصِرُ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed one day then left and said: ‘so-and-so, why don’t you improve your prayer? Shouldn’t the one who is praying reflection how he prays it for himself? I can see behind me just as I can see in front of me.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَبَعْدَهَا رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَکَانَ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْمَغْرِبِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فِي بَيْتِهِ وَبَعْدَ الْعِشَائِ رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَکَانَ لَا يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمْعَةِ حَتَّی يَنْصَرِفَ فَيُصَلِّيَ رَکْعَتَيْنِ

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray two Rak’ahs before Zuhr and two afterward, and he used to pray two Rak’ahs after Maghrib in his house, and two Rak’ahs after ‘Isha’, and he did not pray after Jumu ‘ah until he departed (from the Masjid), then he would pray two Rak’ahs at home.”

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْنَا عَلِيًّا عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَيُّکُمْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِکَ قُلْنَا إِنْ لَمْ نُطِقْهُ سَمِعْنَا قَالَ کَانَ إِذَا کَانَتْ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ هَا هُنَا کَهَيْئَتِهَا مِنْ هَا هُنَا عِنْدَ الْعَصْرِ صَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَإِذَا کَانَتْ مِنْ هَا هُنَا کَهَيْئَتِهَا مِنْ هَا هُنَا عِنْدَ الظُّهْرِ صَلَّی أَرْبَعًا وَيُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ أَرْبَعًا وَبَعْدَهَا ثِنْتَيْنِ وَيُصَلِّي قَبْلَ الْعَصْرِ أَرْبَعًا يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَ کُلِّ رَکْعَتَيْنِ بِتَسْلِيمٍ عَلَی الْمَلَائِکَةِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ وَمَنْ تَبِعَهُمْ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ

It was narrated from Abu Is that ‘Asim bin Damrah said: “We asked ‘Ali about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم He said: ‘Who among you could manage to do that?’ We said: ‘Even if we cannot do it, we still want to hear about it.’ He said: ‘When the sun reached the same height (in the east) as it reaches (in the west) at the time of ‘Asr, he would pray two Rak’ahsj and when the sun reached the same height (in the east) as it reaches (in the west) at the time for Zuhr he would pray four Rak’ahs. He would pray four Rak’ahs before Zuhr and two after, and he would pray four Rak’ahs before ‘Asr, separating each two Rak’ahs with Taslimupon the angels who are close to Allah, and the prophets, and those who follow them of the believers and Muslims.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي النَّهَارِ قَبْلَ الْمَکْتُوبَةِ قَالَ مَنْ يُطِيقُ ذَلِکَ ثُمَّ أَخْبَرَنَا قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي حِينَ تَزِيغُ الشَّمْسُ رَکْعَتَيْنِ وَقَبْلَ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ أَرْبَعَ رَکَعَاتٍ يَجْعَلُ التَّسْلِيمَ فِي آخِرِهِ

It was narrated from Abu Ishaq, that ‘A bin amrah said: “I asked ‘Ali bin Abi Talib about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم a during the day before the prescribed prayers. He said: ‘Who is able to do that?’ Then he told us: ‘The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to pray two Rak’ahs when the sun had passed its zenith, and four Rak’ahs before the middle of the day, with the Taslimat the end.” (Hasan)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمٌ ح و أَخْبَرَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ هُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ التَّکْبِيرَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حِينَ يُکَبِّرُ حَتَّی يَجْعَلَهُمَا حَذْوَ مَنْکِبَيْهِ وَإِذَا کَبَّرَ لِلرُّکُوعِ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ ثُمَّ إِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ وَقَالَ رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ وَلَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِکَ حِينَ يَسْجُدُ وَلَا حِينَ يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ السُّجُودِ

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar said: I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم when he said the opening Takbir of the prayer, raise his hands until they were level with his shoulders. When he said the Takbir before bowing he did likewise, and when he said: ‘Sami’ Allahu liman Hamidah (Allah hears those who praise Him),’ he did likewise, then he said: ‘Rabbana wa lakal-hamd (Our Lord, to You be praise).’ But he did not do that when he prostrated or when he raised his head from prostration.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سَالِمٌ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَی الصَّلَاةِ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّی تَکُونَا حَذْوَ مَنْکِبَيْهِ ثُمَّ يُکَبِّرُ قَالَ وَکَانَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِکَ حِينَ يُکَبِّرُ لِلرُّکُوعِ وَيَفْعَلُ ذَلِکَ حِينَ يَرْفَعُ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ وَيَقُولُ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ وَلَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِکَ فِي السُّجُودِ

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَذْوَ مَنْکِبَيْهِ وَإِذَا رَکَعَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ رَفَعَهُمَا کَذَلِکَ وَقَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ وَکَانَ لَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِکَ فِي السُّجُودِ

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم started to pray, he would raise his hands in level with his shoulders, and when he bowed and when he raised his head from bowing, he would raise them likewise and say “Sami’ Allahu liman Hamidah, Rabband wa-lakal-hamd (Allah hears those who praise Him, our Lord, to You be praise).” And he did not do that when he prostrated.(Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ کَبَّرَ وَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّی حَاذَتَا أُذُنَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَقْرَأُ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْکِتَابِ فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا قَالَ آمِينَ يَرْفَعُ بِهَا صَوْتَهُ

It was narrated from ‘Abdul Jabbar bin Wa’il that his father said: “I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and when he started to pray he said the Takbir and raised his hands until they were in level with his ears. Then he recited the Opening of the Book, and when he had finished he said ‘Amin’ and raised his voice with it.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ نَصْرَ بْنَ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ مَالِکِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ وَکَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا صَلَّی رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حِينَ يُکَبِّرُ حِيَالَ أُذُنَيْهِ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْکَعَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ

It was narrated from Malik bin Al-Huwairith — who was one of the Companions of the Prophet — that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed he would raise his hands— when he said the Takbir — until they were parallel to his ears, and when he wanted to bow and when he raised his head from bowing. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ نَصْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ مَالِکِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ وَحِينَ رَکَعَ وَحِينَ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ حَتَّی حَاذَتَا فُرُوعَ أُذُنَيْهِ

It was narrated that Malik bin Al-Huwairith said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم when he started to pray, raise his hands, and when he bowed, and when he raised his head from bowing, until they were parallel with the top of his ears.” (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ رَأَی النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّی تَکَادَ إِبْهَامَاهُ تُحَاذِي شَحْمَةَ أُذُنَيْهِ

It was narrated from ‘Abdul Jabbar bin Wa’il, from his father, that he saw the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم when he started to pray, raise his hands until his thumbs were almost level with his earlobes. (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سَمْعَانَ قَالَ جَائَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ إِلَی مَسْجِدِ بَنِي زُرَيْقٍ فَقَالَ ثَلَاثٌ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْمَلُ بِهِنَّ تَرَکَهُنَّ النَّاسُ کَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ مَدًّا وَيَسْکُتُ هُنَيْهَةً وَيُکَبِّرُ إِذَا سَجَدَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ

Saeed bin Sam’an said: “Abu Hurairah came to the Masjid of Banu Zuraiq and said: ‘There are three things that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم used to do and the people have abandoned; he used to raise his hands extended when praying, and he would fall silent briefly, and say Takblr when he prostrated and when he sat up.” (Hasan)
