أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادٌ عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ إِنَّ الْمُشْرِکِينَ شَغَلُوا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أَرْبَعِ صَلَوَاتٍ يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ فَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَأَذَّنَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّی الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّی الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّی الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ فَصَلَّی الْعِشَائَ

It was narrated that Abu ‘Ubaidah said: “Abdullah said: ‘The idolators kept the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم from (offering) four prayers on the day of Al-Khandaq, so he commanded Bilal to call the Adhan, then he said the Iqamah and prayed uhr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed ‘Asr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed Maghrib, then he said the Iqamah and prayed ‘Isha’.” (Da’if)

أَخْبَرَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَکَرِيَّا بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ زَائِدَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ أَنَّ أَبَا الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَکِّيَّ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ حَدَّثَهُمْ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ کُنَّا فِي غَزْوَةٍ فَحَبَسَنَا الْمُشْرِکُونَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَائِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ الْمُشْرِکُونَ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُنَادِيًا فَأَقَامَ لِصَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ فَصَلَّيْنَا وَأَقَامَ لِصَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ فَصَلَّيْنَا وَأَقَامَ لِصَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ فَصَلَّيْنَا وَأَقَامَ لِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَائِ فَصَلَّيْنَا ثُمَّ طَافَ عَلَيْنَا فَقَالَ مَا عَلَی الْأَرْضِ عِصَابَةٌ يَذْکُرُونَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ غَيْرُکُمْ

‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud said: “We were fighting a battle and the idolators kept us from praying uhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and ‘Isha’. When the idolators went away, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم commanded a caller to say Iqamah for Zuhr prayer, and we prayed. Then he said the Iqamah for ‘Asr, and we prayed, and he said the Iqamah for Maghrib and we prayed, and he said the Iqamah for ‘Isha’ and we prayed. Then he went around among us and said: ‘There is no group on Earth who is remembering Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, except you.” (Da’If).

إِنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ ← نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ← هِشَامٌ أَنَّ أَبَا الزُّبَيْرِ الْمَکِّيَّ ← سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، ← زَائِدَۃَ، ← حُسَیْنُ بْنُ عَلِیٍّ ← الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ زَکَرِيَّا بْنِ دِينَارٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ أَنَّ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّی يَوْمًا فَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ بَقِيَتْ مِنْ الصَّلَاةِ رَکْعَةٌ فَأَدْرَکَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ نَسِيتَ مِنْ الصَّلَاةِ رَکْعَةً فَدَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ وَأَمَرَ بِلَالًا فَأَقَامَ الصَّلَاةَ فَصَلَّی لِلنَّاسِ رَکْعَةً فَأَخْبَرْتُ بِذَلِکَ النَّاسَ فَقَالُوا لِي أَتَعْرِفُ الرَّجُلَ قُلْتُ لَا إِلَّا أَنْ أَرَاهُ فَمَرَّ بِي فَقُلْتُ هَذَا هُوَ قَالُوا هَذَا طَلْحَةُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ

It was narrated that Muawiyah bin Hudaij that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed one day and said the Taslimwhen there was still a Rak’ah left of the prayer. A man caught up with him and said: ‘You forgot a Rak’ah of the prayer!’ So he came back into the Masjid and told Bilal to call the Iqamah for prayer, then he led the people in praying one Rak’ah. I told the people about that and they said to me: ‘Do you know who that man was?’ I said: ‘No, not unless I see him.’ Then he passed by me and I said: ‘This is he.’ They said: ‘This is Talhah bin ‘Ubaidullah.” (Sahih)

مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حُدَيْجٍ: ← يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، أَنَّ سُوَيْدَ بْنَ قَيْسٍ ← اللَّيْثُ ← قُتَيْبَةُ،

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ الْحَکَمِ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَی عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رُبَيِّعَةَ أَنَّهُ کَانَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يُؤَذِّنُ فَقَالَ مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا لَرَاعِي غَنَمٍ أَوْ عَازِبٌ عَنْ أَهْلِهِ فَنَظَرُوا فَإِذَا هُوَ رَاعِي غَنَمٍ

[ was narrated from ‘Abdullah bin Rubayyi’ah that he was with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم on a journey, and he heard the voice of a man calling the Adhan, and he said what he said. When he reached the words: Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasal Allah (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم), — Al Hakam said, “I did not hear this from Ibn Abl Lailah” — the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “This is a shepherd or a man who is away from his family.” He went down into the valley and found a shepherd, standing by a dead sheep. He said: “Do you think that this is worthless to its owners?” They said: “Yes.” He said: “This world is more worthless to Allah than this (dead sheep) is to its owners.”] (Hasan)

أَهْلِهِ فَنَظَرُوا فَإِذَا هُوَ رَاعِي غَنَمٍ ← إِنَّ هَذَا لَرَاعِي غَنَمٍ أَوْ عَازِبٌ ← مِثْلَ قَوْلِهِ ثُمَّ ← صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يُؤَذِّنُ ← عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رُبَيِّعَةَ أَنَّهُ کَانَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ فِي سَفَرٍ ← ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَی ← الْحَكَمِ ← شُعْبَةُ، ← عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ، ← إِسْحَقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ أَنَّ أَبَا عُشَّانَةَ الْمَعَافِرِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَعْجَبُ رَبُّکَ مِنْ رَاعِي غَنَمٍ فِي رَأْسِ شَظِيَّةِ الْجَبَلِ يُؤَذِّنُ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَيُصَلِّي فَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ انْظُرُوا إِلَی عَبْدِي هَذَا يُؤَذِّنُ وَيُقِيمُ الصَّلَاةَ يَخَافُ مِنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لِعَبْدِي وَأَدْخَلْتُهُ الْجَنَّةَ

It was narrated that ‘Uqbah bin ‘Amir said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم say: ‘Your Lord is pleased with a shepherd high in the mountains who calls the Adhan for the prayer and prays. Allah says: ‘Look at this slave of Mine; he calls the Adhan and Iqamah for prayer and fears Me. I have forgiven My slave and admitted him to Paradise.” (Sahih)

يَعْجَبُ رَبُّکَ مِنْ رَاعِي غَنَمٍ فِي رَأْسِ شَظِيَّةِ الْجَبَلِ يُؤَذِّنُ بِالصَّلَاةِ وَيُصَلِّي ← رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ← عُقْبَۃَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ← عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنَّ أَبَا عُشَّانَةَ الْمَعَافِرِيَّ، ← ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ1،

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَحْيَی بْنِ خَلَّادِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَنْ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي صَفِّ الصَّلَاةِ الْحَدِيثَ

It was narrated from Rifá’ah bin Rafi’ that while the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم was sitting in the row for prayer. The Hadith.’ (Sahih).

رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، ← جَدِّهِ، ← أَبِيهِ ← يَحْيَی بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَحْيَی بْنِ خَلَّادِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ الزُّرَقِيُّ ← إِسْمَعِيلُ ← عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ مُؤَذِّنَ مَسْجِدِ الْعُرْيَانِ عَنْ أَبِي الْمُثَنَّی مُؤَذِّنِ مَسْجِدِ الْجَامِعِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنْ الْأَذَانِ فَقَالَ کَانَ الْأَذَانُ عَلَی عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَثْنَی مَثْنَی وَالْإِقَامَةُ مَرَّةً مَرَّةً إِلَّا أَنَّکَ إِذَا قُلْتَ قَدْ قَامَتْ الصَّلَاةُ قَالَهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ فَإِذَا سَمِعْنَا قَدْ قَامَتْ الصَّلَاةُ تَوَضَّأْنَا ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا إِلَی الصَّلَاةِ

It was narrated that Abu Al Muthanna, the Mu ‘adhdhin of the Jami’ Masjid, said: “I asked Ibn ‘Umar about the Adhan and he said: ‘At the time of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم the phrases of the Adhan were recited twice and the phrases of the Iqamah once, except that you should say (the phrase) Qad qamat i (prayer is about to begin) twice. When we heard ‘prayer is about to begin’ we would perform Wudu and go out to pray.” (Sahih).

الأَذَانُ ← سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ← أَبِي الْمُثَنَّی مُؤَذِّنِ مَسْجِدِ الْجَامِعِ ← أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ مُؤَذِّنَ مَسْجِدِ الْعُرْيَانِ ← شُعْبَةُ، ← حجاج، ← عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ تَمِيمٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّائِ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ مَالِکِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلِصَاحِبٍ لِي إِذَا حَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَأَذِّنَا ثُمَّ أَقِيمَا ثُمَّ لِيَؤُمَّکُمَا أَحَدُکُمَا

It was narrated that Malik bin Al-Huwayrith said: “The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said to me and to a companion of mine: ‘When the time for prayer comes, let the two of you call the Adhan then the two of you say the Iqamah, then let the older of you lead the prayer.” (Sahih).

مَالِكِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ: ← أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، ← خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّائِ ← إِسْمَعِيلُ ← عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَاةِ أَدْبَرَ الشَّيْطَانُ وَلَهُ ضُرَاطٌ حَتَّی لَا يَسْمَعَ التَّأْذِينَ فَإِذَا قُضِيَ النِّدَائُ أَقْبَلَ حَتَّی إِذَا ثُوِّبَ بِالصَّلَاةِ أَدْبَرَ حَتَّی إِذَا قُضِيَ التَّثْوِيبُ أَقْبَلَ حَتَّی يَخْطُرَ بَيْنَ الْمَرْئِ وَنَفْسِهِ يَقُولُ اذْکُرْ کَذَا اذْکُرْ کَذَا لِمَا لَمْ يَکُنْ يَذْکُرُ حَتَّی يَظَلَّ الْمَرْئُ إِنْ يَدْرِي کَمْ صَلَّی

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “When the call for the prayer is given, the Shaitan takes to his heels, passing wind loudly so that he will not hear the call to prayer. When the call to prayer is finished, he comes back. And when the Iqamah is said, he again takes to his heels, and after it is completed, he returns again to interfere between the (praying) person and his heart, saying to him: ‘Remember such and such, remember such and such,’ — things that he had not remembered — until he does not know how many (Rak’ahs) he has prayed.” (Sahih).

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← الْأَعْرَجِ ← أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، ← مَالِكٍ، ← قُتَيْبَةُ،

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي النِّدَائِ وَالصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَجِدُوا إِلَّا أَنْ يَسْتَهِمُوا عَلَيْهِ لَاسْتَهَمُوا عَلَيْهِ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي التَّهْجِيرِ لَاسْتَبَقُوا إِلَيْهِ وَلَوْ عَلِمُوا مَا فِي الْعَتَمَةِ وَالصُّبْحِ لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًااتِّخَاذُ الْمُؤَذِّنِ الَّذِي لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَی أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “If the people knew what (virtue) there is in the call to prayer and the first row, and they had no other way but to draw lots concerning them, they would draw lots. If they knew what (virtue) there is in coming early for the prayer, they would compete in doing so. And if they knew what (virtue) there is in ‘Atamah and Subh prayer, they would come even if they had to crawl.” (Sahih).

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← اَبِیْ صَالِحٍ ← سُمَيٍّ ← مَالِكٍ، ← قُتَيْبَةُ،

أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَائِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي فَقَالَ أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ وَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَی أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Abi Ai-’As said: “I said: ‘Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم, make me the Imam of my people.’ He said: ‘You are their Imam, so consider the weakest among them and choose a Muadhdhin who does not accept any payment for his Adhan.” (Sahih)

قُلْتُ ← عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ← مُطَرِّفٍ ← أَبِي الْعَلَائِ ← سَعِیْدٍ الْجُرَیْرِیِّ، ← حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ← عَفَّانُ، ← أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَطَائِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ النِّدَائَ فَقُولُوا مِثْلَ مَا يَقُولُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ

It was narrated from Abu Saeed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “When you hear the call, say what the Mu‘adhdhin says.” (Sahih)
