أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا بَکْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ عَنْ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَحْيَی الزُّرَقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَمِّهِ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ وَکَانَ بَدْرِيًّا قَالَ کُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ دَخَلَ رَجُلٌ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّی وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْمُقُهُ وَلَا يَشْعُرُ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ فَأَتَی رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَ ارْجِعْ فَصَلِّ فَإِنَّکَ لَمْ تُصَلِّ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي فِي الثَّانِيَةِ أَوْ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ قَالَ وَالَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْکَ الْکِتَابَ لَقَدْ جَهِدْتُ فَعَلِّمْنِي وَأَرِنِي قَالَ إِذَا أَرَدْتَ الصَّلَاةَ فَتَوَضَّأْ فَأَحْسِنْ الْوُضُوئَ ثُمَّ قُمْ فَاسْتَقْبِلْ الْقِبْلَةَ ثُمَّ کَبِّرْ ثُمَّ اقْرَأْ ثُمَّ ارْکَعْ حَتَّی تَطْمَئِنَّ رَاکِعًا ثُمَّ ارْفَعْ حَتَّی تَعْتَدِلَ قَائِمًا ثُمَّ اسْجُدْ حَتَّی تَطْمَئِنَّ سَاجِدًا ثُمَّ ارْفَعْ رَأْسَکَ حَتَّی تَطْمَئِنَّ قَاعِدًا ثُمَّ اسْجُدْ حَتَّی تَطْمَئِنَّ سَاجِدًا فَإِذَا صَنَعْتَ ذَلِکَ فَقَدْ قَضَيْتَ صَلَاتَکَ وَمَا انْتَقَصْتَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ فَإِنَّمَا تَنْقُصُهُ مِنْ صَلَاتِکَ

It was narrated that Rifa’ah bin Rafi’ — who had been present at Badr — said: “We were with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم when a man entered the Masjid and prayed. The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم watched him without him realizing, then he finished, came to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and greeted him with Salam. He returned the Salam and said: ‘Go back and pray, for you have not prayed.” He (the narrator) said: “I do not know if it was the second or third time, “(the man) said: ‘By the One Who revealed the Book to you, I have tried my best. Teach me and show me.’ He said: ‘When you want to pray, perform Wudi ’ and do it well, then stand up and face the Qiblah. Then say the Takbir, then recite, then bow until you are at ease in bowing. Then stand up until you are standing up straight. Then prostrate until you are at ease in prostration, then raise your head until you are at ease in sitting, then prostrate until you are at ease in prostration. If you do that then you will have done your prayer properly, and whatever you failed to do properly is going to detract from your prayer.”(Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَنَسًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَتِمُّوا الرُّکُوعَ وَالسُّجُودَ إِذَا رَکَعْتُمْ وَسَجَدْتُمْ

It was narrated that Qatadah said: “I heard Anas narrate that the Prophet ~ said: ‘Bow and prostrate properly when you bow and prostrate.” (Sahih).

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَکِ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الْعَنْبَرِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ وَائِلٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ وَإِذَا رَکَعَ وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ هَکَذَا وَأَشَارَ قَيْسٌ إِلَی نَحْوِ الْأُذُنَيْنِ

‘Alqamah bin Wa’il said: “My father told me: ‘I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم and I saw him raise his hands when he started to pray, and when he bowed, and when he said: “Sami’ Allahu liman Hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)” like this.” And (one of the narrators) Qais pointed toward his ears. (Sahih)

أَبِي ← عَلْقَمَةُ بْنُ وَائِلٍ ← قَيْسُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ ← عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ ← سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ زُرَيْعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ نَصْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ مَالِکِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ أَنَّهُ رَأَی رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا رَکَعَ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ حَتَّی يُحَاذِيَ بِهِمَا فُرُوعَ أُذُنَيْهِ

It was narrated from Malik bin Al-Huwairith that he saw the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم raise his hands when he bowed, and when he raised his head from bowing, until they were in level with the highest part of his ears. (Sahih)

نَصْرِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ، ← قَتَادَةَ ← سَعِيدٍ، ← يَزِيدُ -وَهُوَ ابْنُ زُرَيْعٍ- ← إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ

أَخْبَرَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِکُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ حَذْوَ مَنْکِبَيْهِ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ فَعَلَ مِثْلَ ذَلِکَ وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ قَالَ رَبَّنَا لَکَ الْحَمْدُ وَکَانَ لَا يَرْفَعُ يَدَيْهِ بَيْنَ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ

It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم t used to raise his hands until they were in level with his shoulders when he started to pray, and when he raised his head from bowing he did likewise, and when he said: “Sami’ AlIahu liman Hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)” he said: “Rabbanalakal iiamd (Our Lord, to You be praise)” and he did not raise his hands between the two prostrations.(Sahih)

قَالَ الْبُخَارِي أَخْبَرَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَکِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ کُلَيْبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَلَا أُصَلِّي بِکُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ يَدَيْهِ إِلَّا مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that he said: “Shall I not show you how the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم prayed?” So he prayed, and he only raised his hands once. (Da‘if)

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ← عَلْقَمَةَ، ← عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ، ← عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ، ← سُفْيَانَ، ← وَكِيعٌ، ← مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ المَرْوَزِيُّ، ← الْبُخَارِي

أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ کَانَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَذْوَ مَنْکِبَيْهِ وَإِذَا کَبَّرَ لِلرُّکُوعِ وَإِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ رَفَعَهُمَا کَذَلِکَ أَيْضًا وَقَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ وَکَانَ لَا يَفْعَلُ ذَلِکَ فِي السُّجُودِ

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم started to pray, he raised his hands until they were in level with his shoulders, and when he said the Takbir before bowing, and when he raised his head from bowing he raised (his hands) likewise, and said: “Sami’ Allahu liman Hamidah Rabbana wa lakal hamd (Allah hears the one who praises Him; Our Lord, and to You be the praise),” and he did not do that when prostrating. (Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرُّکُوعِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “When the Prophet raised his head from bowing, he said: ‘Allahumma Rabbanawa lakal-hamd (Allah, our Lord and to You be the praise).” (Sahih)

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← اَبِیْ سَلَمَۃَ ← الزُّهْرِيِّ، ← مَعْمَرٌ، ← عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، ← إِسْحَقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

أَخْبَرَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ عَنْ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَقَطَ مِنْ فَرَسٍ عَلَی شِقِّهِ الْأَيْمَنِ فَدَخَلُوا عَلَيْهِ يَعُودُونَهُ فَحَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَلَمَّا قَضَی الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا رَکَعَ فَارْکَعُوا وَإِذَا رَفَعَ فَارْفَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ

It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم fell from a horse onto his right side, and they entered upon him to visit him. The time for prayer came, and when he has finished praying he said: “The Imam is appointed to be followed, so when he bows, then bow, and when he stands up, then stand up, and when he says: ‘Sami’ Allahu liman Hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him)’ then say: ‘Rabbanawa lakal-hamd (Our Lord, and to You be the praise).”(Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ مَالِکٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي نُعَيْمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَحْيَی الزُّرَقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رِفَاعَةَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ قَالَ کُنَّا يَوْمًا نُصَلِّي وَرَائَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمَّا رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنْ الرَّکْعَةِ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ قَالَ رَجُلٌ وَرَائَهُ رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْدًا کَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَکًا فِيهِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَنْ الْمُتَکَلِّمُ آنِفًا فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ بِضْعَةً وَثَلَاثِينَ مَلَکًا يَبْتَدِرُونَهَا أَيُّهُمْ يَکْتُبُهَا أَوَّلًا

It was narrated that Rifa’ah bin Rafi’ said: “We were praying behind the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم one day and when he raised his head from bowing he said: ‘Sami’ Allahu liman Hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him).’ A man behind him said: ‘Rabbanawa lakAl- hamdan Kathiran tayyiban mubarakan fih. (our Lord, and to You be the praise, much blessed and pure praise.)’ When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم had finished he said: ‘Who is the one who spoke just now?’ The man said: ‘I did, Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم.’ The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘I saw thirty-some angels rushing to see which of them would write it down first.”(Sahih)

رِفَاعَۃَ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، ← أَبِيهِ ← عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَحْيَی الزُّرَقِيِّ ← نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ← مَالِكٍ، ← ابْنُ الْقَاسِمِ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ،

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا قَالَ الْإِمَامُ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ فَإِنَّ مَنْ وَافَقَ قَوْلُهُ قَوْلَ الْمَلَائِکَةِ غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: “When the Imam says: ‘Sami’ Allahu liman i (Allah hears the one who praises Him),’ then say: ‘Rabbanawa lakal hamd,’ (Our Lord, and to You be the praise).’ Whoever says that and it coincides with the angels saying it, his previous sins will be forgiven.”(Sahih)

أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ حِطَّانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا مُوسَی قَالَ إِنَّ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَنَا وَبَيَّنَ لَنَا سُنَّتَنَا وَعَلَّمَنَا صَلَاتَنَا فَقَالَ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ فَأَقِيمُوا صُفُوفَکُمْ ثُمَّ لِيَؤُمَّکُمْ أَحَدُکُمْ فَإِذَا کَبَّرَ الْإِمَامُ فَکَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا قَرَأَ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ فَقُولُوا آمِينَ يُجِبْکُمْ اللَّهُ وَإِذَا کَبَّرَ وَرَکَعَ فَکَبِّرُوا وَارْکَعُوا فَإِنَّ الْإِمَامَ يَرْکَعُ قَبْلَکُمْ وَيَرْفَعُ قَبْلَکُمْ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتِلْکَ بِتِلْکَ وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا وَلَکَ الْحَمْدُ يَسْمَعْ اللَّهُ لَکُمْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ قَالَ عَلَی لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَإِذَا کَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ فَکَبِّرُوا وَاسْجُدُوا فَإِنَّ الْإِمَامَ يَسْجُدُ قَبْلَکُمْ وَيَرْفَعُ قَبْلَکُمْ قَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَتِلْکَ بِتِلْکَ فَإِذَا کَانَ عِنْدَ الْقَعْدَةِ فَلْيَکُنْ مِنْ أَوَّلِ قَوْلِ أَحَدِکُمْ التَّحِيَّاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ الصَّلَوَاتُ لِلَّهِ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْکَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَکَاتُهُ سَلَامٌ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَی عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ سَبْعُ کَلِمَاتٍ وَهِيَ تَحِيَّةُ الصَّلَاةِ

It was narrated from Hittan bin ‘Abdullah that he heard Abu Musasay: “The Prophet of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم addressed us and taught us our Sunnah and our prayer. He said: ‘When you pray, make your rows straight and let one of you lead you in prayer. When the Imam says the Takbir, then say the Takbir. When he recites ‘Not (the way) of those who earned Your anger, nor of those who went astray’ then say: “Amin,” and Allah will answer you. When he says the Takbir and bows, then say the Takbir and bow. The Imam bows before you do and stands up before you do.’ ‘The Prophet of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘This makes up for that. And when he says: “Sami’ Allahu liman zamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him),” then say: “Allahumma, Rabbanawa lakal-Hamd (Allah, our Lord, and to You be the praise),” Allah will hear you, for Allah has said on the lips of His Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم “Allah hears the one who praises Him.” And when he (the Imam) says the Takbir and prostrates, then say the Takbir and prostrate. The Imam prostrates before you do and sits up before you do.’ The Prophet of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم said: ‘This makes up for that. And when he is sitting, let the first thing that any one of you says be:(All compliments, good words and prayers are due to Allah, peace be upon you Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous slaves of Allah. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger) — seven phrases which are the greeting of the prayer.” (Sahih)
