It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that 'Umar said: O Messenger of Allah (PBUH), I have been given a share of land at Kbaybar and I have never been given any wealth that is more precious to me than it. He said: "If you wish, you can 'freeze' it and give it in charity." So 'Umar gave it in charity and stipulated that it was not to be sold, given as a gift or inherited, and he gave it in charity to the poor, guests and slaves, for the sake of Allah (i.e., jihad) and for wayfarers; there was no sin on the one appointed to look after it if he ate from it on a reasonable basis, and fed a friend without storing anything for the future.

It was narrated from 'Eesa ibn Hafs: my father told me: I was with Ibn 'Umar on a journey and he prayed Zuhr and 'Asr with two rak'ahs each. Then he went to sit on a rug of his and saw some people offering a voluntary prayer afterwards. He said: What are these people doing? I said: They are offering voluntary prayer. He said: If I wanted to offer any (voluntary) prayer before it or after it, I would have offered it (the obligatory prayer) in full. I accompanied the Prophet (PBUH) until he passed away, and he did not do any more than two rak'ahs (when travelling). And (I accompanied) Abu Bakr until he passed away, and he did not do any more than two rak'ahs (when travelling), and the same goes for 'Umar and 'Uthmaan.
