حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَرَقَهُ هُوَ وَفَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ

'Ali bin Husain narrated that Husain bin 'Ali (RA) told him that 'Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) told him that the Prophet (PBUH) came to him and Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet (PBUH), at night and said: "Why don't you get up and pray?" I ['Ali] said: O Messenger of Allah, indeed our souls are in the hand of Allah; if He wants to wake us up He will wake us up. He left when I said that and did not say anything back to me. Then I heard him say, whilst he was turning away and striking his thigh: "But, man is ever more quarrelsome than anything" [ah Kahf 18:54].

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ قَالَ أَبِي سَمِعْتُهُ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي خَلِيفَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ رَفِيقٌ يُحِبُّ الرِّفْقَ وَيُعْطِي عَلَى الرِّفْقِ مَا لَا يُعْطِي عَلَى الْعُنْفِ

It was narrated that 'Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:" Allah is Kind and loves kindness, and He rewards for kindness in a way that He does not reward for harshness."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَنْ حَدَّثَ عَنِّي حَدِيثًا يُرَى أَنَّهُ كَذِبٌ فَهُوَ أَكْذَبُ الْكَاذِبِينَ

It was narrated that 'Ali (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Whoever narrates a hadeeth from me thinking it to be false, is the worst of liars."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ وَهِشَامٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ذَكَرَ أَهْلَ النَّهْرَوَانِ فَقَالَ فِيهِمْ رَجُلٌ مُودَنُ الْيَدِ أَوْ مَثْدُونُ الْيَدِ أَوْ مُخْدَجُ الْيَدِ لَوْلَا أَنْ تَبْطَرُوا لَنَبَّأْتُكُمْ مَا وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ يَقْتُلُونَهُمْ عَلَى لِسَانِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ لِعَلِيٍّ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ مِنْهُ قَالَ إِي وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ

It was narrated from 'Abeedah that 'Ali (RA) mentioned the people of an-Nahrawan. He said: Among them is a man with a defective arm, or an incomplete arm, or a small arm. If you could exercise restraint, I would have told you what Allah promised on the lips of Muhammad (PBUH) to those who kill them. I said: Did you hear that from Muhammad (PBUH) ? He said: Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah.

حَدَّثَنَا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ وَرْدَانَ الْأَسَدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنْ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَفِي كُلِّ عَامٍ فَسَكَتَ فَقَالُوا أَفِي كُلِّ عَامٍ فَسَكَتَ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالُوا أَفِي كُلِّ عَامٍ فَقَالَ لَا وَلَوْ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ لَوَجَبَتْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ إِنْ تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ

It was narrated that 'Ali (RA) said: When this verse "And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka'bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for one's conveyance, provision and residence)" [Al-' Imran 3:97] was revealed, they said: O Messenger of Allah, is it every year? He remained silent. Then they said: Is it every year? He remained silent. Then they said: Is it every year? He said: "No. If I said yes, it would be obligatory." Then Allah revealed the words: "O you who believe! Ask not about things which, if made plain to you, may cause you trouble" [al-Ma'idah 5:101] up to the end of the Ayah.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُخَيْمِرَةَ عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا عَنْ الْمَسْحِ فَقَالَتْ ائْتِ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِذَلِكَ مِنِّي قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ الْمَسْحِ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ قَالَ فَقَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَأْمُرُنَا أَنْ نَمْسَحَ عَلَى الْخُفَّيْنِ يَوْمًا وَلَيْلَةً وَلِلْمُسَافِرِ ثَلَاثًا

It was narrated that Shuraih bin Hani' said: I asked 'A'ishah about wiping over the khuffain [leather slippers]. She said: Go to 'Ali (RA), for he knows more about that than me. So I went to 'Ali (RA) and asked him about wiping over the khuffain. He said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to tell us to wipe over the khuffain for one day and night, and for the traveller it is three [days and nights].

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَنْبَأَنَا حَجَّاجٌ رَفَعَهُ

It was narrated that Shuraih bin Hani' said: I asked 'A'ishah about wiping over the khuffain [leather slippers]. She said: Go to 'Ali (RA), for he knows more about that than me. So I went to 'Ali (RA) and asked him about wiping over the khuffain. He said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to tell us to wipe over the khuffain for one day and night, and for the traveller it is three [days and nights].

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْأَزْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْمُفَضَّلِ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا

It was narrated from 'Abd Khair: I heard 'Ali (RA) say: Shall I not tell you of the best of this ummah after the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)? It is Abu Bakr and 'Umar ((RA).

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَوْنٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُبَارَكُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ أَخُو سُفْيَانَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا قَالَ فَذَكَرَ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالثَّانِي قَالَ فَذَكَرَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْ شِئْتُ لَأَنْبَأْتُكُمْ بِالثَّالِثِ قَالَ وَسَكَتَ فَرَأَيْنَا أَنَّهُ يَعْنِي نَفْسَهُ فَقُلْتُ أَنْتَ سَمِعْتَهُ يَقُولُ هَذَا قَالَ نَعَمْ وَرَبِّ الْكَعْبَةِ وَإِلَّا صُمَّتَا

It was narrated that 'Abd Khair al-Hamdani said: I heard 'Ali (RA) say on the minbar : Shall I not tell you of the best of this ummah after its Prophet? Then he mentioned Abu Bakr. Then he said: Shall I not tell you of the second one? Then he mentioned 'Umar (RA). Then he said: If I wished, I could tell you of the third one. And he kept quiet. We thought that he meant himself. I [the narrator] said: Did you hear him say that? He said: Yes, by the Lord of the Ka'bah, otherwise may they [his ears] go deaf.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا مُسْهِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ سَلْعٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ سَلْعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ غَسَلَ كَفَّيْهِ ثَلَاثًا وَمَضْمَضَ وَاسْتَنْشَقَ ثَلَاثًا وَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثَلَاثًا وَقَالَ هَذَا وُضُوءُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

It was narrated from 'Ali (RA) that he washed his hands three times, rinsed his mouth and nose three times, washed his face three times, and said: This is the wudoo' of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ صُبَيْحٍ عَنْ شُتَيْرِ بْنِ شَكَلٍ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْأَحْزَابِ شَغَلُونَا عَنْ الصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ مَلَأَ اللَّهُ قُبُورَهُمْ وَبُيُوتَهُمْ نَارًا قَالَ ثُمَّ صَلَّاهَا بَيْنَ الْعِشَاءَيْنِ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ و قَالَ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ مَرَّةً يَعْنِي بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ

It was narrated that 'Ali (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said on the day of al-Ahzab: "They distracted us from the middle prayer, Asr prayer. May Allah fill their graves and houses with fire." Then he prayed ['Asr] between the two evening prayers, between Maghrib and 'Isha'. Abu Mu'awiyah said on one occasion: i.e., between Maghrib and 'Isha'.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ إِذَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا فَلَأَنْ أَخِرَّ مِنْ السَّمَاءِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أَكْذِبَ عَلَيْهِ وَإِذَا حَدَّثْتُكُمْ عَنْ غَيْرِهِ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا رَجُلٌ مُحَارِبٌ وَالْحَرْبُ خَدْعَةٌ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ يَخْرُجُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ قَوْمٌ أَحْدَاثُ الْأَسْنَانِ سُفَهَاءُ الْأَحْلَامِ يَقُولُونَ مِنْ قَوْلِ خَيْرِ الْبَرِيَّةِ لَا يُجَاوِزُ إِيمَانُهُمْ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ فَأَيْنَمَا لَقِيتُمُوهُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُمْ فَإِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ لِمَنْ قَتَلَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

'Ali said: When I narrate to you from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), it would be dearer to me to be thrown down from the sky than to tell a lie about him. But if I narrate from someone else, then I am a warrior and war is deceit. I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say: "There will emerge at the end of time people who are young in age and immature, but their speech will be like the best of people. But their faith will not go any further than their throats. Wherever you encounter them, then kill them, for killing them brings to the one who kills them reward on the Day of Resurrection."
