Musnad Imam Ahmad Bin Hanble

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي الطَّحَّانَ حَدَّثَنَا مُطَرِّفٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ الرَّجُلُ صَوْتَهُ بِالْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ الْعَتَمَةِ وَبَعْدَهَا يُغَلِّطُ أَصْحَابَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ

It was narrated that 'Ali (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) forbade a man to raise his voice in reciting the Qur'an before and after 'lsha’ lest he cause his companions to make a mistake in their prayer."

عَلِيٍّ، ← الْحَارِثِ ← أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ← مُطَرِّفٍ ← خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي الطَّحَّانَ ← عَفَّانُ

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يُودَى الْمُكَاتَبُ بِقَدْرِ مَا أَدَّى

It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Blood money will be paid for the mukatab (a slave with a contract of manumission) commensurate with as much as he had paid off."

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا زَوَّجَهُ فَاطِمَةَ بَعَثَ مَعَهَا بِخَمِيلَةٍ وَوِسَادَةٍ مِنْ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ وَرَحَيَيْنِ وَسِقَاءٍ وَجَرَّتَيْنِ

It was narrated from 'Ali (RA)that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) gave Fatimah to him in marriage, he sent with her a velvet garment, a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibre, two millstones, a waterskin and two earthenware jars.

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَنْبَأَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ يُحَنَّسَ وَصَفِيَّةَ كَانَا مِنْ سَبْيِ الْخُمُسِ فَزَنَتْ صَفِيَّةُ بِرَجُلٍ مِنْ الْخُمُسِ فَوَلَدَتْ غُلَامًا فَادَّعَاهُ الزَّانِي وَيُحَنَّسُ فَاخْتَصَمَا إِلَى عُثْمَانَ فَرَفَعَهُمَا إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَقْضِي فِيهِمَا بِقَضَاءِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْوَلَدُ لِلْفِرَاشِ وَلِلْعَاهِرِ الْحَجَرُ وَجَلَدَهُمَا خَمْسِينَ خَمْسِينَ

It was narrated from aPHasan bin Sa'd, from his father, that Yuhannas and Safiyyah were two of the captives of the khumus. Safiyyah committed zina with one of the men of the khumus and gave birth to a child who was claimed by both the fornicator and Yuhannas. They referred the dispute to 'Uthman, who referred them to 'Ali bin Abi Talib. 'Ali said: I shall pass judgement between them as the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) passed judgement: the child belongs to (the husband) of the women and the fornicator gets nothing. And he gave them fifty lashes each.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلَانَ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ حَدَّثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّهِ قَالَتْ كُنَّا بِمِنًى فَإِذَا صَائِحٌ يَصِيحُ أَلَا إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا تَصُومُنَّ فَإِنَّهَا أَيَّامُ أَكْلٍ وَشُرْبٍ قَالَتْ فَرَفَعْتُ أَطْنَابَ الْفُسْطَاطِ فَإِذَا الصَّائِحُ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Sulaim az-Zuraqi that his mother said: We were in Mina and we heard someone shouting that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) was saying: "Do not fast. For these are days of eating and drinking." She said; I lifted the edge of the tent and saw that the one who was shouting was 'Ali bin Abi Talib.

أُمِّهِ ← عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، ← عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ← يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ← الْمُفَضَّلُ بْنُ فَضَالَةَ ← يَحْيَى بْنُ غَيْلَانَ،

حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا عَنْ حَجَّاجِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ حُجَيَّةَ بْنِ عَدِيٍّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ أَنَّ الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي تَعْجِيلِ صَدَقَتِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَحِلَّ فَرَخَّصَ لَهُ

It was narrated from 'Ali that al-' Abbas bin 'Abdul-Muttalib asked the Prophet (PBUH) about paying zakah in advance and he gave him a concession allowing him to do that.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي مَخْرَمَةُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَرْسَلْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ بْنَ الْأَسْوَدِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ الْمَذْيِ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ الْإِنْسَانِ كَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ بِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأْ وَانْضَحْ فَرْجَكَ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: 'Ali bin Abi Talib said: I sent al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) to ask him about the madhi that comes out of a man: how should he deal with it? The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Do wudoo' and sprinkle water on your private part."

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّهِ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ بِمِنًى إِذَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى جَمَلٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ هَذِهِ أَيَّامُ طُعْمٍ وَشُرْبٍ فَلَا يَصُومَنَّ أَحَدٌ فَاتَّبَعَ النَّاسُ

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Sulaim az-Zuraqi, from his mother, that she said: Whilst we were in Mina, I saw 'Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) on a camel, saying: The Messenger of Allah says: "These are days of eating and drinking, so no one should fast." And he followed the people [to convey this message].

أُمِّهِ ← عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ، ← عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ← ابْنِ الْهَادِ، ← لَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ← قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَنِي غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَاصِمَ بْنَ ضَمْرَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مِنْ كُلِّ اللَّيْلِ قَدْ أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَوَّلِهِ وَأَوْسَطِهِ وَآخِرِهِ وَانْتَهَى وِتْرُهُ إِلَى آخِرِ اللَّيْلِ

It was narrated from 'Ali (RA) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) prayed Witr at all times of the night, at the beginning, in the middle and at the end, and finally he prayed Witr at the end of the night.

عَلِيٍّ، ← عَاصِمَ بْنَ ضَمْرَةَ ← غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ ← أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ ← شُعْبَةُ ← عَفَّانُ

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَلَمَةُ بْنُ كُهَيْلٍ أَنْبَأَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حُجَيَّةَ بْنَ عَدِيٍّ رَجُلًا مِنْ كِنْدَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنِّي اشْتَرَيْتُ هَذِهِ الْبَقَرَةَ لِلْأَضْحَى قَالَ عَنْ سَبْعَةٍ قَالَ الْقَرْنُ قَالَ لَا يَضُرُّكَ قَالَ الْعَرَجُ قَالَ إِذَا بَلَغَتْ الْمَنْسَكَ فَانْحَرْ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ نَسْتَشْرِفَ الْعَيْنَ وَالْأُذُنَ

Hujayyah bin 'Adiyy, a man from Kindah, said: i heard a man ask 'Ali (RA): I bought this cow to offer it as a sacrifice. He said: [It may be offered] on behalf of seven people. He said: [What if something is wrong with] the horn? He said: It does not matter. He said: [What if it is] lame? He said: If it can reach the place of sacrifice, then sacrifice it. Then he said; The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) commanded us to check the eyes and ears.

رَجُلًا سَأَلَ عَلِيًّا ← حُجَيَّةَ بْنَ عَدِيٍّ رَجُلًا مِنْ كِنْدَةَ ← سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، ← شُعْبَةُ ← عَفَّانُ

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ حَدَّثَنَا حُصَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنِي سَعْدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدَةَ قَالَ تَنَازَعَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ وَحِبَّانُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ لِحِبَّانَ قَدْ عَلِمْتُ مَا الَّذِي جَرَّأَ صَاحِبَكَ يَعْنِي عَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ فَمَا هُوَ لَا أَبَا لَكَ قَالَ قَوْلٌ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُهُ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالزُّبَيْرَ وَأَبَا مَرْثَدٍ وَكُلُّنَا فَارِسٌ قَالَ انْطَلِقُوا حَتَّى تَبْلُغُوا رَوْضَةَ خَاخٍ فَإِنَّ فِيهَا امْرَأَةً مَعَهَا صَحِيفَةٌ مِنْ حَاطِبِ بْنِ أَبِي بَلْتَعَةَ إِلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَأْتُونِي بِهَا فَانْطَلَقْنَا عَلَى أَفْرَاسِنَا حَتَّى أَدْرَكْنَاهَا حَيْثُ قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَسِيرُ عَلَى بَعِيرٍ لَهَا قَالَ وَكَانَ كَتَبَ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ بِمَسِيرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْنَا لَهَا أَيْنَ الْكِتَابُ الَّذِي مَعَكِ قَالَتْ مَا مَعِي كِتَابٌ فَأَنَخْنَا بِهَا بَعِيرَهَا فَابْتَغَيْنَا فِي رَحْلِهَا فَلَمْ نَجِدْ فِيهِ شَيْئًا فَقَالَ صَاحِبَايَ مَا نَرَى مَعَهَا كِتَابًا فَقُلْتُ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمَا مَا كَذَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ حَلَفْتُ وَالَّذِي أَحْلِفُ بِهِ لَئِنْ لَمْ تُخْرِجِي الْكِتَابَ لَأُجَرِّدَنَّكِ فَأَهْوَتْ إِلَى حُجْزَتِهَا وَهِيَ مُحْتَجِزَةٌ بِكِسَاءٍ فَأَخْرَجَتْ الصَّحِيفَةَ فَأَتَوْا بِهَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَدْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ دَعْنِي أَضْرِبْ عُنُقَهُ قَالَ يَا حَاطِبُ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى مَا صَنَعْتَ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ مَا بِي أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ مُؤْمِنًا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَلَكِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ تَكُونَ لِي عِنْدَ الْقَوْمِ يَدٌ يَدْفَعُ اللَّهُ بِهَا عَنْ أَهْلِي وَمَالِي وَلَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِكَ إِلَّا لَهُ هُنَاكَ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَنْ يَدْفَعُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بِهِ عَنْ أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ قَالَ صَدَقْتَ فَلَا تَقُولُوا لَهُ إِلَّا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّهُ قَدْ خَانَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَالْمُؤْمِنِينَ دَعْنِي أَضْرِبْ عُنُقَهُ قَالَ أَوَلَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَدْرٍ وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ اطَّلَعَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ فَقَدْ وَجَبَتْ لَكُمْ الْجَنَّةُ فَاغْرَوْرَقَتْ عَيْنَا عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ

Sa'd bin 'Ubaidah said: Abu 'Abdur-Rahman as-Sulami and Hibban bin 'Atiyyah had a dispute. 'Abdur-Rahman said to Hibban: I know what made your companion - meaning 'Ali (RA) audacious. He said: What is it, may you be bereft of your father? He said: Something i heard 'Ali (RA) say. He said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sent me, az-Zubair and Abu Marthad on a mission, and we were all horsemen. He said: "Go to Rawdat Khakh, for there you will find a woman who has a letter with her from Hatib bin Abi Balta'ah to the mushrikcen ; bring it to me." So we went on our horses until we caught up with her where the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) had told us, travelling on a camel of hers. He [Hatib] had written to the people of Makkah, telling them about the march of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). We said to her: Where is the letter you have with you? She said: I do not have any letter. We made her camel kneel down and searched her luggage for it, but we did not find anything. My two companions said: We do not see any letter with her. I said: You know that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) did not tell a lie. Then I swore: By the One by Whom oaths are sworn, you will give us the letter or we will remove your clothes. She stretched out her hand to her girdle, which was wrapped around her, and brought out the letter. I brought it to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) and they said: O Messenger of Allah, he has betrayed Allah and His Messenger and ihc believers; let me strike his neck. He said: "O Hatib, what made you do what you did?'' He said: O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, it is not that I do not believe in Allah and His Messenger, but i wanted to do a favour for the people by means of which Allah might protect my family and my properly, for every one of your Companions has some of his people there through whom Allah will protect his family and his property. He said: You have spoken the truth; do not say anything to him but good." 'Umar said: O Messenger of Allah, he betrayed Allah and His Messenger and the believers, let me strike his neck. He said: "Is he not one of the people of Lladr? How do you know? Perhaps Allah looked upon them and said: 'Do what you like, for Paradise is guaranteed for you.'" 'Umar's eyes filled with tears and he said: Allah, may He be exalted, and His Messenger know best.

حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ مَعْرُوفٍ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ هَارُونَ أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجُهَنِيُّ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ثَلَاثَةٌ يَا عَلِيُّ لَا تُؤَخِّرْهُنَّ الصَّلَاةُ إِذَا أَتَتْ وَالْجَنَازَةُ إِذَا حَضَرَتْ وَالْأَيِّمُ إِذَا وَجَدَتْ كُفُؤًا

Sa'eed bin 'Abdullah al Juhani narrated that Muhammad bin 'Umar bin 'Ali bin Abi Talib told him, from his father, from his grandfather 'Ali bin Abi Talib (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Three things, O 'Ali, you should not delay. They are: prayer when the time comes, funerals when the bier is there, and a single woman, if she finds a compatible match."
