Musnad Imam Ahmad Bin Hanble

حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ حَدَّثَنَا زَمْعَةُ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ وَهْرَامَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى عَلَى بِسَاطٍ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) prayed on a reed mat.

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ← عِكْرِمَةَ ← سَلَمَةَ بْنِ وَهْرَامَ، ← زَمْعَةُ، ← الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُکَيْنٍ

حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ مِنْ الشِّعْرِ حُكْمًا وَإِنَّ مِنْ الْقَوْلِ سِحْرًا

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "In some poetry there is wisdom and in eloquence there is (an impact like that of) magic."

حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ قَالَ مَرَّ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ عَلَى أُنَاسٍ قَدْ وَضَعُوا حَمَامَةً يَرْمُونَهَا فَقَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَّخَذَ الرُّوحُ غَرَضًا

It was narrated that 'Ikrimah said; Ibn 'Abbas (RA) passed by some people who were using a pigeon to shoot at. He said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) forbade taking an animate being as a target.

عِكْرِمَةَ ← سِمَاكٍ، ← سُفْيَانَ، ← الْفَضْلُ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ أَخَذَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ابْنَةً لَهُ تَقْضِي فَاحْتَضَنَهَا فَوَضَعَهَا بَيْنَ ثَدْيَيْهِ فَمَاتَتْ وَهِيَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَصَاحَتْ أُمُّ أَيْمَنَ فَقِيلَ أَتَبْكِي عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ أَلَسْتُ أَرَاكَ تَبْكِي يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ لَسْتُ أَبْكِي إِنَّمَا هِيَ رَحْمَةٌ إِنَّ الْمُؤْمِنَ بِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ إِنَّ نَفْسَهُ تَخْرُجُ مِنْ بَيْنِ جَنْبَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Prophet (PBUH) embraced a daughter of his who was dying and held her against his chest, then she died as she was leaning against his chest. Umm Aiman screamed and it was said: Are you weeping in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)? She said: Don't I see you weeping, O Messenger of Allah? He said: "I am not weeping; rather it is compassion. The believer is fine in all situations: his soul comes out of his body whilst He is still praising Allah, may He be glorified and exalted."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ حَدَّثَنِي قَيْسُ بْنُ حَبْتَرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ الْجَرِّ الْأَبْيَضِ وَالْجَرِّ الْأَخْضَرِ وَالْجَرِّ الْأَحْمَرِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أَوَّلَ مَنْ سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفْدُ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا نُصِيبُ مِنْ الثُّفْلِ فَأَيُّ الْأَسْقِيَةِ فَقَالَ لَا تَشْرَبُوا فِي الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَاشْرَبُوا فِي الْأَسْقِيَةِ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَ عَلَيَّ أَوْ حَرَّمَ الْخَمْرَ وَالْمَيْسِرَ وَالْكُوبَةَ وَكُلُّ مُسْكِرٍ حَرَامٌ قَالَ سُفْيَانُ قُلْتُ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ مَا الْكُوبَةُ قَالَ الطَّبْلُ

Qays bin Habtar said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas (RA) about white earthenware, green earthenware and red earthenware. He said: The first people to ask the Prophet (PBUH) about that was the delegation of 'Abdul-Qais. They said: We drink the dregs; what kind of vessels should we use? He said: “Do not drink from gourds, varnished jars, hollowed out stumps or green glazed pitchers; drink from waterskins." Then he said: “Allah has forbidden to me - or has forbidden ntoxicants, gambling and kettledrums, and every intoxicant is haram."

قَيْسُ بْنُ حَبْتَرٍ، ← عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ، ← سُفْيَانَ، ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْعَيْنُ حَقٌّ تَسْتَنْزِلُ الْحَالِقَ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "The (evil) eye is real and could cause the destruction of a mountain."

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ← جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، ← رَجُلٍ ← سُفْيَانَ، ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْعَدَنِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ دُوَيْدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ مِثْلَهُ

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) said: "The (evil) eye is real and could cause the destruction of a mountain."

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَيْرُ أَكْحَالِكُمُ الْإِثْمِدُ عِنْدَ النَّوْمِ يُنْبِتُ الشَّعْرَ وَيَجْلُو الْبَصَرَ وَخَيْرُ ثِيَابِكُمْ الْبَيَاضُ فَالْبَسُوهَا وَكَفِّنُوا فِيهَا مَوْتَاكُمْ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “The best of your kohl is antimony (applied) when you go to sleep. It makes the hair grow and makes the vision clear. And the best of your garments are those that are white; wear them and shroud your dead in them."

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ← عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ← سُفْيَانَ، ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَّخَذَ شَيْءٌ فِيهِ الرُّوحُ غَرَضًا

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) forbade taking any animate being as a target.

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ← عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ← الْعَلاَءِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعُ بْنُ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ الْأَيِّمُ أَمْلَكُ بِأَمْرِهَا مِنْ وَلِيِّهَا وَالْبِكْرُ تُسْتَأْمَرُ فِي نَفْسِهَا وَصُمَاتُهَا إِقْرَارُهَا

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The previously married woman has more right to decide concerning her marriage than her guardian, and the virgin should be consulted - and her silence is her approval."

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ← نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ← عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ كَانَ الْجِنُّ يَسْمَعُونَ الْوَحْيَ فَيَسْتَمِعُونَ الْكَلِمَةَ فَيَزِيدُونَ فِيهَا عَشْرًا فَيَكُونُ مَا سَمِعُوا حَقًّا وَمَا زَادُوهُ بَاطِلًا وَكَانَتْ النُّجُومُ لَا يُرْمَى بِهَا قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا بُعِثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ أَحَدُهُمْ لَا يَأْتِي مَقْعَدَهُ إِلَّا رُمِيَ بِشِهَابٍ يُحْرِقُ مَا أَصَابَ فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى إِبْلِيسَ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا إِلَّا مِنْ أَمْرٍ قَدْ حَدَثَ فَبَثَّ جُنُودَهُ فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بَيْنَ جَبَلَيْ نَخْلَةَ فَأَتَوْهُ فَأَخْبَرُوهُ فَقَالَ هَذَا الْحَدَثُ الَّذِي حَدَثَ فِي الْأَرْضِ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: The jinn used to listen to the Revelation; they would hear a word and add ten to it, and what they heard was true and what they added was false. [Shooting] stars were not used to target the jinn before that. When the Prophet (PBUH) was sent, one of them would not come to a position to listen but a (shooting) star would be aimed at him, and it would burn whatever it hit. They complained about that to Ibices and he said: This can only be because of something that has happened. He sent his troops and they saw the Prophet (PBUH) praying between the two mountains at Nakhlah. They came and told him about that and he said: This is what has happened on earth.

ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ← سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، ← أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ← اِسْرَائِیْلُ ← أَبُو أَحْمَدَ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ الْعِجْلِيُّ وَكَانَتْ لَهُ هَيْئَةٌ رَأَيْنَاهُ عِنْدَ حَسَنٍ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ أَقْبَلَتْ يَهُودُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ إِنَّا نَسْأَلُكَ عَنْ خَمْسَةِ أَشْيَاءَ فَإِنْ أَنْبَأْتَنَا بِهِنَّ عَرَفْنَا أَنَّكَ نَبِيٌّ وَاتَّبَعْنَاكَ فَأَخَذَ عَلَيْهِمْ مَا أَخَذَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَلَى بَنِيهِ إِذْ قَالُوا اللَّهُ عَلَى مَا نَقُولُ وَكِيلٌ قَالَ هَاتُوا قَالُوا أَخْبِرْنَا عَنْ عَلَامَةِ النَّبِيِّ قَالَ تَنَامُ عَيْنَاهُ وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبُهُ قَالُوا أَخْبِرْنَا كَيْفَ تُؤَنِّثُ الْمَرْأَةُ وَكَيْفَ تُذْكِرُ قَالَ يَلْتَقِي الْمَاءَانِ فَإِذَا عَلَا مَاءُ الرَّجُلِ مَاءَ الْمَرْأَةِ أَذْكَرَتْ وَإِذَا عَلَا مَاءُ الْمَرْأَةِ آنَثَتْ قَالُوا أَخْبِرْنَا مَا حَرَّمَ إِسْرَائِيلُ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ قَالَ كَانَ يَشْتَكِي عِرْقَ النَّسَا فَلَمْ يَجِدْ شَيْئًا يُلَائِمُهُ إِلَّا أَلْبَانَ كَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ بْن أَحْمَد قَالَ أَبِي قَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ يَعْنِي الْإِبِلَ فَحَرَّمَ لُحُومَهَا قَالُوا صَدَقْتَ قَالُوا أَخْبِرْنَا مَا هَذَا الرَّعْدُ قَالَ مَلَكٌ مِنْ مَلَائِكَةِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مُوَكَّلٌ بِالسَّحَابِ بِيَدِهِ أَوْ فِي يَدِهِ مِخْرَاقٌ مِنْ نَارٍ يَزْجُرُ بِهِ السَّحَابَ يَسُوقُهُ حَيْثُ أَمَرَ اللَّهُ قَالُوا فَمَا هَذَا الصَّوْتُ الَّذِي يُسْمَعُ قَالَ صَوْتُهُ قَالُوا صَدَقْتَ إِنَّمَا بَقِيَتْ وَاحِدَةٌ وَهِيَ الَّتِي نُبَايِعُكَ إِنْ أَخْبَرْتَنَا بِهَا فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا لَهُ مَلَكٌ يَأْتِيهِ بِالْخَبَرِ فَأَخْبِرْنَا مَنْ صَاحِبكَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام قَالُوا جِبْرِيلُ ذَاكَ الَّذِي يَنْزِلُ بِالْحَرْبِ وَالْقِتَالِ وَالْعَذَابِ عَدُوُّنَا لَوْ قُلْتَ مِيكَائِيلَ الَّذِي يَنْزِلُ بِالرَّحْمَةِ وَالنَّبَاتِ وَالْقَطْرِ لَكَانَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَنْ كَانَ عَدُوًّا لِجِبْرِيلَ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةَ

It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (RA) said: Some Jews came to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH)and said: O Abul-Qasim, we are going to ask you about five things; if you tell us what we know about them, then you are indeed a Prophet and we will follow you. He took a promise from them as Isra'eel took a promise from his sons when they said: "Allah is the Witness to what we have said” [Yousuf 12:66]. He said: "Let's hear it.” They said: Tell us about the sign of a Prophet. He said: "His eyes sleep but his heart does not sleep.” They said: Tell us how can a woman give birth to a female or a male? He said: "The two waters meet and if the man's water prevails over the woman's, she will give birth to a male, but if the woman's water prevails, she will give birth to a female.” They said: Tell us what Isra'eel forbade to himself. He said: "He suffered from sciatica and could not find anything to help him except the milk of such and such” - my father said: meaning camel's milk - so he forbade (camel meat) to himself." They said: You are right. They said; Tell us about thunder. He said: "One of the angels of Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, is in charge of the clouds. In his hand is a whip of fire with which he collects the clouds and drives them wherever Allah commands." They said: What is this sound that we hear? He said; "His voice." They said: You are right; there is only one question left, and it is the one that will decide whether we swear allegiance to you. There is no Prophet but he has an angel who brings news to him; tell us who your angel is. He said: "Jibreel (AS)." They said: Jibreel! He is the one who brings down war, fighting and punishment; he is our enemy. If you had said Mika'eel, who brings down mercy, plants and rain, it would have been fine. Then Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, revealed the words: "Whoever is an enemy to Jibreel (Gabriel) (let him die in his fuiy), for indeed he has brought it (this Qur'an) down to your heart by Allah's Permission, confirming what came before it [i.e. the Tawrat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and guidance and glad tidings for the believers'" [al- Baqarah 2:97].
