حَدَّثَنَا ا بْنُ مُقَاتِلٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَی بْنُ أَبِي کَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ أَنَّکَ تَصُومُ النَّهَارَ وَتَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ فَقُلْتُ بَلَی يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَلَا تَفْعَلْ صُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ وَقُمْ وَنَمْ فَإِنَّ لِجَسَدِکَ عَلَيْکَ حَقًّا وَإِنَّ لِعَيْنِکَ عَلَيْکَ حَقًّا وَإِنَّ لِزَوْجِکَ عَلَيْکَ حَقًّا وَإِنَّ لِزَوْرِکَ عَلَيْکَ حَقًّا وَإِنَّ بِحَسْبِکَ أَنْ تَصُومَ کُلَّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ فَإِنَّ لَکَ بِکُلِّ حَسَنَةٍ عَشْرَ أَمْثَالِهَا فَإِنَّ ذَلِکَ صِيَامُ الدَّهْرِ کُلِّهِ فَشَدَّدْتُ فَشُدِّدَ عَلَيَّ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَجِدُ قُوَّةً قَالَ فَصُمْ صِيَامَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام وَلَا تَزِدْ عَلَيْهِ قُلْتُ وَمَا کَانَ صِيَامُ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام قَالَ نِصْفَ الدَّهْرِ فَکَانَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ بَعْدَ مَا کَبِرَ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَبِلْتُ رُخْصَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As: Allah's Apostle said to me, "O `Abdullah! Have I not been informed that you fast during the day and offer prayers all the night." `Abdullah replied, "Yes, O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet said, "Don't do that; fast for few days and then give it up for few days, offer prayers and also sleep at night, as your body has a right on you, and your wife has a right on you, and your guest has a right on you. And it is sufficient for you to fast three days in a month, as the reward of a good deed is multiplied ten times, so it will be like fasting throughout the year." I insisted (on fasting) and so I was given a hard instruction. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have power." The Prophet said, "Fast like the fasting of the Prophet David and do not fast more than that." I said, "How was the fasting of the Prophet of Allah, David?" He said, "Half of the year," (i.e. he used to fast on every alternate day). Afterwards when `Abdullah became old, he used to say, "It would have been better for me if I had accepted the permission of the Prophet (which he gave me i.e. to fast only three days a month).

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ وَأَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو قَالَ أُخْبِرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنِّي أَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ لَأَصُومَنَّ النَّهَارَ وَلَأَقُومَنَّ اللَّيْلَ مَا عِشْتُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ قَدْ قُلْتُهُ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي قَالَ فَإِنَّکَ لَا تَسْتَطِيعُ ذَلِکَ فَصُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ وَقُمْ وَنَمْ وَصُمْ مِنْ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ فَإِنَّ الْحَسَنَةَ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا وَذَلِکَ مِثْلُ صِيَامِ الدَّهْرِ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ قَالَ فَصُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمَيْنِ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ قَالَ فَصُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا فَذَلِکَ صِيَامُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام وَهُوَ أَفْضَلُ الصِّيَامِ فَقُلْتُ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: Allah's Apostle was informed that I had taken an oath to fast daily and to pray (every night) all the night throughout my life (so Allah's Apostle came to me and asked whether it was correct): I replied, "Let my parents be sacrificed for you! I said so." The Prophet said, "You can not do that. So, fast for few days and give it up for few days, r ray and sleep. Fast three days a month as the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times and that will be equal to one year of fasting." I replied, "I can do better than that." The Prophet said to me, "Fast one day and give up fasting for a day and that is the fasting of Prophet David and that is the best fasting." I said, "I have the power to fast better (more) than that." The Prophet said, "There is no better fasting than that."

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ سَمِعْتُ عَطَائً أَنَّ أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ الشَّاعِرَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا بَلَغَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنِّي أَسْرُدُ الصَّوْمَ وَأُصَلِّي اللَّيْلَ فَإِمَّا أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ وَإِمَّا لَقِيتُهُ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ أُخْبَرْ أَنَّکَ تَصُومُ وَلَا تُفْطِرُ وَتُصَلِّي فَصُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ وَقُمْ وَنَمْ فَإِنَّ لِعَيْنِکَ عَلَيْکَ حَظًّا وَإِنَّ لِنَفْسِکَ وَأَهْلِکَ عَلَيْکَ حَظًّا قَالَ إِنِّي لَأَقْوَی لِذَلِکَ قَالَ فَصُمْ صِيَامَ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام قَالَ وَکَيْفَ قَالَ کَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا وَلَا يَفِرُّ إِذَا لَاقَی قَالَ مَنْ لِي بِهَذِهِ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قَالَ عَطَائٌ لَا أَدْرِي کَيْفَ ذَکَرَ صِيَامَ الْأَبَدِ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا صَامَ مَنْ صَامَ الْأَبَدَ مَرَّتَيْنِ

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: The news of my daily fasting and praying every night throughout the night reached the Prophet. So he sent for me or I met him, and he said, "I have been informed that you fast everyday and pray every night (all the night). Fast (for some days) and give up fasting (for some days); pray and sleep, for your eyes have a right on you, and your body and your family (i.e. wife) have a right on you." I replied, "I have more power than that (fasting)." The Prophet said, "Then fast like the fasts of (the Prophet) David". I said, "How?" He replied, "He used to fast on alternate days, and he used not to flee on meeting the enemy." I said, "From where can I get that chance?" (`Ata' said, "I do not know how the expression of fasting daily throughout the life occurred.") So, the Prophet said, twice, "Whoever fasts daily throughout his life is just as the one who does not fast at all."

عَطَائٍ ← ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، ← أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ← عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُجَاهِدًا عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ صُمْ مِنْ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ قَالَ أُطِيقُ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّی قَالَ صُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ اقْرَإِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي کُلِّ شَهْرٍ قَالَ إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَکْثَرَ فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّی قَالَ فِي ثَلَاثٍ

Narrated Mujahid from `Abdullah bin `Amr: The Prophet said (to `Abdullah), "Fast three days a month." `Abdullah said, (to the Prophet) "I am able to fast more than that." They kept on arguing on this matter till the Prophet said, "Fast on alternate days, and recite the whole Qur'an once a month." `Abdullah said, "I can recite more (in a month)," and the argument went on till the Prophet said, "Recite the Qur'an once each three days." (i.e. you must not recite the whole Qur'an in less than three days).

فِي ثَلَاثٍ ← إِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَکْثَرَ فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّی ← صُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ اقْرَإِ الْقُرْآنَ فِي کُلِّ شَهْرٍ ← أُطِيقُ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ فَمَا زَالَ حَتَّی ← صُمْ مِنْ الشَّهْرِ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ ← النَّبِيِّ ← عَبْدِ اللہِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ← مُجَاهِدًا، ← مُغِيرَةَ، ← شُعْبَةُ، ← غُنْدَرٌ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ

حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا حَبِيبُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ الْمَکِّيَّ وَکَانَ شَاعِرًا وَکَانَ لَا يُتَّهَمُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّکَ لَتَصُومُ الدَّهْرَ وَتَقُومُ اللَّيْلَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ إِنَّکَ إِذَا فَعَلْتَ ذَلِکَ هَجَمَتْ لَهُ الْعَيْنُ وَنَفِهَتْ لَهُ النَّفْسُ لَا صَامَ مَنْ صَامَ الدَّهْرَ صَوْمُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ صَوْمُ الدَّهْرِ کُلِّهِ قُلْتُ فَإِنِّي أُطِيقُ أَکْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِکَ قَالَ فَصُمْ صَوْمَ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام کَانَ يَصُومُ يَوْمًا وَيُفْطِرُ يَوْمًا وَلَا يَفِرُّ إِذَا لَاقَی

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr bin Al-`As: The Prophet said to me, "You fast daily all the year and pray every night all the night?" I replied in the affirmative. The Prophet said, "If you keep on doing this, your eyes will become weak and your body will get tired. He who fasts all the year is as he who did not fast at all. The fasting of three days (a month) will be equal to the tasting of the whole year." I replied, "I have the power for more than this." The Prophet said, "Then fast like the fasting of David who used to fast on alternate days and would never flee from the battle field, on meeting the enemy.

عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ ← أَبَا الْعَبَّاسِ الْمَکِّيَّ وَکَانَ شَاعِرًا وَکَانَ لَا يُتَّهَمُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ ← حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ← شُعْبَةُ، ← آدَمُ،

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ الْوَاسِطِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّائِ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِيکَ عَلَی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَحَدَّثَنَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذُکِرَ لَهُ صَوْمِي فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ فَأَلْقَيْتُ لَهُ وِسَادَةً مِنْ أَدَمٍ حَشْوُهَا لِيفٌ فَجَلَسَ عَلَی الْأَرْضِ وَصَارَتْ الْوِسَادَةُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ فَقَالَ أَمَا يَکْفِيکَ مِنْ کُلِّ شَهْرٍ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ خَمْسًا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ سَبْعًا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ تِسْعًا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِحْدَی عَشْرَةَ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا صَوْمَ فَوْقَ صَوْمِ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام شَطْرَ الدَّهَرِ صُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr: Allah's Apostle was informed about my fasts, and he came to me and I spread for him a leather cushion stuffed with palm fires, but he sat on the ground and the cushion remained between me and him, and then he said, "Isn't it sufficient for you to fast three days a month?" I replied, "O Allah's Apostle! (I can fast more)." He said, "Five?" I replied, "O Allah's Apostle! (I can fast more)." He said, "Seven?" I replied, "O Allah's Apostle! (I can fast more)." He said, "Nine (days per month)?" I replied, "O Allah's Apostle! (I can fast more)" He said, "Eleven (days per month)?" And then the Prophet said, "There is no fast superior to that of the Prophet David it was for half of the year. So, fast on alternate days."

دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِيکَ عَلَی عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو فَحَدَّثَنَا ← أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ ← أَبِي قِلَابَةَ، ← خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّائِ ← خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ← إِسْحَاقُ الْوَاسِطِيُّ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو التَّيَّاحِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو عُثْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ أَوْصَانِي خَلِيلِي صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِثَلَاثٍ صِيَامِ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ کُلِّ شَهْرٍ وَرَکْعَتَيْ الضُّحَی وَأَنْ أُوتِرَ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَنَامَ

Narrated Abu Huraira: My friend (the Prophet ) advised me to observe three things: (1) to fast three days a month; (2) to pray two rak`at of Duha prayer (forenoon prayer); and (3) to pray witr before sleeping.

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← أَبُو عُثْمَانَ ← أَبُو التَّيَّاحِ، ← عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ← أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّی قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي خَالِدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَی أُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ فَأَتَتْهُ بِتَمْرٍ وَسَمْنٍ قَالَ أَعِيدُوا سَمْنَکُمْ فِي سِقَائِهِ وَتَمْرَکُمْ فِي وِعَائِهِ فَإِنِّي صَائِمٌ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَی نَاحِيَةٍ مِنْ الْبَيْتِ فَصَلَّی غَيْرَ الْمَکْتُوبَةِ فَدَعَا لِأُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ وَأَهْلِ بَيْتِهَا فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي خُوَيْصَّةً قَالَ مَا هِيَ قَالَتْ خَادِمُکَ أَنَسٌ فَمَا تَرَکَ خَيْرَ آخِرَةٍ وَلَا دُنْيَا إِلَّا دَعَا لِي بِهِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْهُ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا وَبَارِکْ لَهُ فِيهِ فَإِنِّي لَمِنْ أَکْثَرِ الْأَنْصَارِ مَالًا وَحَدَّثَتْنِي ابْنَتِي أُمَيْنَةُ أَنَّهُ دُفِنَ لِصُلْبِي مَقْدَمَ حَجَّاجٍ الْبَصْرَةَ بِضْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ وَمِائَةٌ

Narrated Anas: The Prophet paid a visit to Um-Sulaim and she placed before him dates and ghee. The Prophet said, "Replace the ghee and dates in their respective containers for I am fasting." Then he stood somewhere in her house and offered an optional prayer and then he invoked good on Um-Sulaim and her family. Then Um-Sulaim said, "O Allah's Apostle! I have a special request (today)." He said, "What is it?" She replied, "(Please invoke for) your servant Anas." So Allah's Apostle did not leave anything good in the world or the Hereafter which he did not invoke (Allah to bestow) on me and said, "O Allah! Give him (i.e. Anas) property and children and bless him." Thus I am one of the richest among the Ansar and my daughter Umaina told me that when Al-Hajjaj came to Basra, more than 120 of my offspring had been buried.

أنس دخل النبي على أم سليم فأتته بتمر وسمن ← حُمَيْدٍ ← خَالِدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ← مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى،

حَدَّثَنَا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ عَنْ غَيْلَانَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلَانُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ أَوْ سَأَلَ رَجُلًا وَعِمْرَانُ يَسْمَعُ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا فُلَانٍ أَمَا صُمْتَ سَرَرَ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ قَالَ أَظُنُّهُ قَالَ يَعْنِي رَمَضَانَ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ لَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَإِذَا أَفْطَرْتَ فَصُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ لَمْ يَقُلْ الصَّلْتُ أَظُنُّهُ يَعْنِي رَمَضَانَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ وَقَالَ ثَابِتٌ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ سَرَرِ شَعْبَانَ

Narrated Mutarrif from `Imran Ibn Husain: That the Prophet asked him (Imran) or asked a man and `Imran was listening, "O Abu so-and-so! Have you fasted the last days of this month?" (The narrator thought that he said, "the month of Ramadan"). The man replied, "No, O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet said to him, "When you finish your fasting (of Ramadan) fast two days (in Shawwal)." Through another series of narrators `Imran said, "The Prophet said, '(Have you fasted) the last days of Sha'ban?"

الرَّجُلُ: لَا. ← يَعْنِي رَمَضَانَ ← أَظُنُّهُ ← يَا أَبَا فُلَانٍ أَمَا صُمْتَ سَرَرَ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ ← النَّبِيِّ أَنَّهُ سَأَلَهُ أَوْ سَأَلَ رَجُلًا وَعِمْرَانُ يَسْمَعُ ← عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ← مُطَرِّفٍ ← غَيْلَانَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ، ← مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ← أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، ← و، ← غَيْلَانَ ← مَهْدِيٌّ، ← الصَّلْتُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ نَهَی النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ قَالَ نَعَمْ زَادَ غَيْرُ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ يَعْنِي أَنْ يَنْفَرِدَ بِصَوْمٍ

Narrated Muhammad bin `Abbas: I asked Jabir "Did the Prophet forbid fasting on Fridays?" He replied, "Yes." (Other narrators added, "If he intends to fast only that day.")

نَعَمْ زَادَ غَيْرُ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ يَعْنِي أَنْ يَنْفَرِدَ بِصَوْمٍ ← صَوْمِ يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ ← سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا نَهَی النَّبِيُّ ← مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ ← عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ شَيْبَةَ ← ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، ← أَبُو عَاصِمٍ

حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يَصُومَنَّ أَحَدُکُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلَّا يَوْمًا قَبْلَهُ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ

Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard the Prophet saying, "None of you should fast on Friday unless he fasts a day before or after it."

لَا يَصُومَنَّ أَحَدُکُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ إِلَّا يَوْمًا قَبْلَهُ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ ← النَّبِيِّ ← أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← أَبُو صَالِحٍ، ← الْاَعْمَشِ ← أَبِي ← عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَی عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ح و حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ عَنْ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَهِيَ صَائِمَةٌ فَقَالَ أَصُمْتِ أَمْسِ قَالَتْ لَا قَالَ تُرِيدِينَ أَنْ تَصُومِي غَدًا قَالَتْ لَا قَالَ فَأَفْطِرِي وَقَالَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ سَمِعَ قَتَادَةَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أَيُّوبَ أَنَّ جُوَيْرِيَةَ حَدَّثَتْهُ فَأَمَرَهَا فَأَفْطَرَتْ

Narrated Abu Aiyub from Juwairiya bint Al-Harith: The Prophet visited her (Juwairiya) on a Friday and she was fasting. He asked her, "Did you fast yesterday?" She said, "No." He said, "Do you intend to fast tomorrow?" She said, "No." He said, "Then break your fast." Through another series of narrators, Abu Aiyub is reported to have said, "He ordered her and she broke her fast."
