حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَكِيعٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ ح و حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى عَنْ إسْرَائِيلَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنْتَ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْكَ وَفِي الْحَدِيثِ قِصَّةٌ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

Narrated 'Uthman bin 'Abdullah bin Mawhab: A man among the people of Egypt performed Hajj to the House, and saw a group sitting, so he said: 'Who are these?' They said: 'The Quraish.' He said: 'So who is this old man?' They said: 'Ibn 'Umar.' So he went to him and said: 'I will ask you about something, so inform me. I ask you by Allah! By the sanctity of this House! Do you know that 'Uthman fled on the Day of (the battle of) Uhud?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Do you know that he was absent from the Pledge of Ar-Ridwan, that he did not witness it?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Do you know that he was absent on the Day of (the battle of) Badr and did not participate in it?' He said: 'Yes.' So he said: 'Allah is Great' So Ibn 'Umar said to him: 'Come, so I can clarify to you what you have asked about. As for his fleeing on the Day of (the battle of) Uhud, then I bear witness that Allah has pardoned him and forgiven him. As for his being absent on the Day of (the battle of) Badr, then he was married to the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to him: You have the reward of a man who participated in (the battle of) Badr, and his share (spoils of war). [And he ordered him to stay behind with her, as she was ill]. As for his being absent from the Pledge of Ar-Ridwan, then if there was anyone more revered in Makkah than 'Uthman, then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would have sent him instead of 'Uthman. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent 'Uthman [to Makkah], and the Pledge of Ar-Ridwan was after 'Uthman had departed for Makkah. He said: So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said with his right hand: This is the hand of 'Uthman, and he put it upon his own hand, and said: This is for 'Uthman. ' He said to him: Go now, and take this (clarification) with you.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي هَارُونَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ إِنَّا کُنَّا لَنَعْرِفُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ نَحْنُ مَعْشَرَ الْأَنْصَارِ بِبُغْضِهِمْ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ إِنَّمَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي هَارُونَ وَقَدْ تَکَلَّمَ شُعْبَةُ فِي أَبِي هَارُونَ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: While the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) alive, we used to say: 'Abu Bakr, and (then) 'Umar, and (then) 'Uthman.'

حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَی حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ الْمُسَاوِرِ الْحِمْيَرِيِّ عَنْ أُمِّهِ قَالَتْ دَخَلْتُ عَلَی أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَمِعْتُهَا تَقُولُ کَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا يُحِبُّ عَلِيًّا مُنَافِقٌ وَلَا يَبْغَضُهُ مُؤْمِنٌ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ هُوَ أَبُو نَصْرٍ الْوَرَّاقُ وَرَوَی عَنْهُ سُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned the Fitnah and said: This one will be wrongfully killed during it, about 'Uthman bin 'Affan [may Allah be pleased with him].

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَی حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيکٌ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ حُبْشِيِّ بْنِ جُنَادَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيٌّ مِنِّي وَأَنَا مِنْ عَلِيٍّ وَلَا يُؤَدِّي عَنِّي إِلَّا أَنَا أَوْ عَلِيٌّ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ

Narrated Jabir: that the Prophet (ﷺ) was brought the body of a deceased man, to perform Salat for him, but he did not pray over him. It was said: O Messenger of Allah! We have not seen you avoiding prayer over anyone before this? He said: He used to hate 'Uthman, so Allah hates him.

حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ مُوسَی الْقَطَّانُ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ قَادِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ حَيٍّ عَنْ حَکِيمِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ عَنْ جُمَيْعِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ آخَی رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ فَجَائَ عَلِيٌّ تَدْمَعُ عَيْنَاهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ آخَيْتَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِکَ وَلَمْ تُؤَاخِ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ أَحَدٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْتَ أَخِي فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَی

Narrated Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari: I went with the Prophet (ﷺ) and he entered a garden of the Ansar, and he relieved himself. He said to me: 'O Abu Musa! Watch the gate for me, and do not let anyone enter except with permission.' Then a man came and knocked at the gate, so I said: 'Who is it?' He said: 'Abu Bakr.' So I said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! It is Abu Bakr asking permission?' He said: 'Give him permission and give him the glad tidings of Paradise.' So he entered, and I gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Another man came and knocked at the gate. I said: 'Who is it?' He said: 'Umar.' So I said: 'O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)! It is 'Umar asking permission?' He said: 'Open it for him, and give him the glad tidings of Paradise.' I opened [the gate], he entered, and I gave him the glad tidings of Paradise. Then another man knocked at the gate. I said: 'Who is it?' So he said: ''Uthman.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! It is 'Uthman asking permission.' He said: 'Open it for him, and give him the glad tidings of Paradise due to a calamity that will befall him.'

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ وَکِيعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَی عَنْ عِيسَی بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ السُّدِّيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ قَالَ کَانَ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَيْرٌ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ ائْتِنِي بِأَحَبِّ خَلْقِکَ إِلَيْکَ يَأْکُلُ مَعِي هَذَا الطَّيْرَ فَجَائَ عَلِيٌّ فَأَکَلَ مَعَهُ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِنْ حَدِيثِ السُّدِّيِّ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَعِيسَی بْنُ عُمَرَ هُوَ کُوفِيٌّ وَالسُّدِّيُّ اسْمُهُ إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَقَدْ أَدْرَکَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِکٍ وَرَأَی الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ وَثَّقَهُ شُعْبَةُ وَسُفْيَانُ الثَّوْرِيُّ وَزَائِدَةُ وَوَثَّقَهُ يَحْيَی بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ

Narrated Abu Sahlah: The day of the house (when he was besieged), 'Uthman said: 'Indeed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) took a covenant from me, and I will abide by it.'

حَدَّثَنَا خَلَّادُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَوْفٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ هِنْدٍ الْجَمَلِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ کُنْتُ إِذَا سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْطَانِي وَإِذَا سَکَتُّ ابْتَدَأَنِي قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

Narrated 'Imran bin Husain: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) dispatched an army and he put 'Ali bin Abi Talib in charge of it. He left on the expedition and he entered upon a female slave. So four of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) scolded him, and they made a pact saying: [If] we meet the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) we will inform him of what 'Ali did. When the Muslims returned from the journey, they would begin with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and give him Salam, then they would go to their homes. So when the expedition arrived, they gave Salam to the Prophet (ﷺ), and one of the four stood saying: O Messenger of Allah! Do you see that 'Ali bin Abi Talib did such and such. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned away from him. Then the second one stood and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the third stood before him, and said as he said, and he turned away from him. Then the fourth stood and said as they had said. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) faced him, and the anger was visible on his face, he said: What do you want from 'Ali?! What do you want from 'Ali?! Indeed 'Ali is from me, and I am from him, and he is the ally of every believer after me.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَعِيلُ بْنُ مُوسَی حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الرُّومِيِّ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيکٌ عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ کُهَيْلٍ عَنْ سُوَيْدِ بْنِ غَفَلَةَ عَنْ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَا دَارُ الْحِکْمَةِ وَعَلِيٌّ بَابُهَا قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ غَرِيبٌ مُنْکَرٌ وَرَوَی بَعْضُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ شَرِيکٍ وَلَمْ يَذْکُرُوا فِيهِ عَنْ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ وَلَا نَعْرِفُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ مِنْ الثِّقَاتِ عَنْ شَرِيکٍ وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

Narrated Abu Sarihah, or Zaid bin Arqam - Shu'bah had doubt: from the Prophet (ﷺ): For whomever I am his Mawla then 'Ali is his Mawla.

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ عَنْ بُکَيْرِ بْنِ مِسْمَارٍ عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ أَمَّرَ مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ سَعْدًا فَقَالَ مَا يَمْنَعُکَ أَنْ تَسُبَّ أَبَا تُرَابٍ قَالَ أَمَّا مَا ذَکَرْتَ ثَلَاثًا قَالَهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَنْ أَسُبَّهُ لَأَنْ تَکُونَ لِي وَاحِدَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حُمْرِ النَّعَمِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لِعَلِيٍّ وَخَلَفَهُ فِي بَعْضِ مَغَازِيهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تَخْلُفُنِي مَعَ النِّسَائِ وَالصِّبْيَانِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَا تَرْضَی أَنْ تَکُونَ مِنِّي بِمَنْزِلَةِ هَارُونَ مِنْ مُوسَی إِلَّا أَنَّهُ لَا نُبُوَّةَ بَعْدِي وَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ لَأُعْطِيَنَّ الرَّايَةَ رَجُلًا يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ فَتَطَاوَلْنَا لَهَا فَقَالَ ادْعُوا لِي عَلِيًّا فَأَتَاهُ وَبِهِ رَمَدٌ فَبَصَقَ فِي عَيْنِهِ فَدَفَعَ الرَّايَةَ إِلَيْهِ فَفَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ نَدْعُ أَبْنَائَنَا وَأَبْنَائَکُمْ وَنِسَائَنَا وَنِسَائَکُمْ الْآيَةَ دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيًّا وَفَاطِمَةَ وَحَسَنًا وَحُسَيْنًا فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ هَؤُلَائِ أَهْلِي قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: May Allah have mercy upon Abu Bakr, he married me to his daughter, and he carried me to the land of Hijrah, and he freed Bilal with his wealth. May Allah have mercy upon 'Umar, he says the truth even if it is sour. The truth caused him to be left without a friend. May Allah have mercy upon 'Uthman, the angels are shy of him. May Allah have mercy upon 'Ali. O Allah! Place the truth with him wherever he turns.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَحْوَصُ بْنُ جَوَّابٍ أَبُو الْجَوَّابِ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَقَ عَنْ الْبَرَائِ قَالَ بَعَثَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَيْشَيْنِ وَأَمَّرَ عَلَی أَحَدِهِمَا عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ وَعَلَی الْآخَرِ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ وَقَالَ إِذَا کَانَ الْقِتَالُ فَعَلِيٌّ قَالَ فَافْتَتَحَ عَلِيٌّ حِصْنًا فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ جَارِيَةً فَکَتَبَ مَعِي خَالِدٌ کِتَابًا إِلَی النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَشِي بِهِ قَالَ فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَی النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَرَأَ الْکِتَابَ فَتَغَيَّرَ لَوْنُهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا تَرَی فِي رَجُلٍ يُحِبُّ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيُحِبُّهُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ غَضَبِ اللَّهِ وَغَضَبِ رَسُولِهِ وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا رَسُولٌ فَسَکَتَ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ

Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet (ﷺ) dispatched two armies and put 'Ali bin Abi Talib in charge of one of them, and Khalid bin Al-Walid in charge of the other. He said: When there is fighting, then (the leader is) 'Ali. He said: So 'Ali conquered a fortress and took a slave girl. So Khalid sent me with a letter to the Prophet (ﷺ) complaining about him. So I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and he read the letter and his color changed, then he said: 'What is your view concerning one who loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him.' He said: I said: 'I seek refuge in Allah from the wrath of Allah and the anger of His Messenger, and I am but a Messenger.' So he became silent.

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ الْکُوفِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ الْأَجْلَحِ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلِيًّا يَوْمَ الطَّائِفِ فَانْتَجَاهُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ لَقَدْ طَالَ نَجْوَاهُ مَعَ ابْنِ عَمِّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا انْتَجَيْتُهُ وَلَکِنَّ اللَّهَ انْتَجَاهُ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ الْأَجْلَحِ وَقَدْ رَوَاهُ غَيْرُ ابْنِ فُضَيْلٍ أَيْضًا عَنْ الْأَجْلَحِ وَمَعْنَی قَوْلِهِ وَلَکِنَّ اللَّهَ انْتَجَاهُ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أَنْتَجِيَ مَعَهُ

Narrated Jabir: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) called 'Ali on the Day (of the battle) of At-Ta'if, and spoke privately with him, so the people said: 'His private conversation with his cousin has grown lengthy.' So the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'I did not speak privately with him, rather Allah spoke privately with him.'

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِعَلِيٍّ يَا عَلِيُّ لَا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ أَنْ يُجْنِبَ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ غَيْرِي وَغَيْرِکَ قَالَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ قُلْتُ لِضِرَارِ بْنِ صُرَدٍ مَا مَعْنَی هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ قَالَ لَا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ يَسْتَطْرِقُهُ جُنُبًا غَيْرِي وَغَيْرِکَ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَی هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ وَسَمِعَ مِنِّي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَعِيلَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فَاسْتَغْرَبَهُ

Narrated Abu Sa'eed: that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to 'Ali: O 'Ali! It is not permissible for anyone to be Junub in this Masjid except for you and I.
