حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَأَبُو النُّعْمَانِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ کَانَ مُعَاذٌ يُصَلِّي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ يَأْتِي قَوْمَهُ فَيُصَلِّي بِهِمْ

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah: Mu`adh used to pray with the Prophet and then go and lead his people (tribe) in the prayer.

جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ← عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، ← أَيُّوبَ ← حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ← سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، وَأَبُو النُّعْمَانِ،

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ لَمَّا مَرِضَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَضَهُ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ أَتَاهُ بِلَالٌ يُوذِنُهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ قُلْتُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَکْرٍ رَجُلٌ أَسِيفٌ إِنْ يَقُمْ مَقَامَکَ يَبْکِي فَلَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَی الْقِرَائَةِ فَقَالَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ فَقُلْتُ مِثْلَهُ فَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أَوْ الرَّابِعَةِ إِنَّکُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ فَصَلَّی وَخَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُهَادَی بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ کَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ يَخُطُّ بِرِجْلَيْهِ الْأَرْضَ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ أَبُو بَکْرٍ ذَهَبَ يَتَأَخَّرُ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ صَلِّ فَتَأَخَّرَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَقَعَدَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَی جَنْبِهِ وَأَبُو بَکْرٍ يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ التَّکْبِيرَ تَابَعَهُ مُحَاضِرٌ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ

Narrated `Aisha: When the Prophet, became ill in his fatal illness, Someone came to inform him about the prayer, and the Prophet told him to tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer. I said, "Abu Bakr is a softhearted man and if he stands for the prayer in your place, he would weep and would not be able to recite the Qur'an." The Prophet said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer." I said the same as before. He (repeated the same order and) on the third or the fourth time he said, "You are the companions of Joseph. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the prayer." So Abu Bakr led the prayer and meanwhile the Prophet felt better and came out with the help of two men; as if I see him just now dragging his feet on the ground. When Abu Bakr saw him, he tried to retreat but the Prophet beckoned him to carry on. Abu Bakr retreated a bit and the Prophet sat on his (left) side. Abu Bakr was repeating the Takbir (Allahu Akbar) of Allah's Apostle for the people to hear.

عَائِشَةَ ← الْأَسْوَدِ، ← إِبْرَاهِيمُ: ← الْاَعْمَشِ ← عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ ← مُسَدَّدٌ

حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ لَمَّا ثَقُلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَائَ بِلَالٌ يُوذِنُهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبَا بَکْرٍ رَجُلٌ أَسِيفٌ وَإِنَّهُ مَتَی مَا يَقُمْ مَقَامَکَ لَا يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَ عُمَرَ فَقَالَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَقُلْتُ لِحَفْصَةَ قُولِي لَهُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَکْرٍ رَجُلٌ أَسِيفٌ وَإِنَّهُ مَتَی يَقُمْ مَقَامَکَ لَا يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ فَلَوْ أَمَرْتَ عُمَرَ قَالَ إِنَّکُنَّ لَأَنْتُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِالنَّاسِ فَلَمَّا دَخَلَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَجَدَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي نَفْسِهِ خِفَّةً فَقَامَ يُهَادَی بَيْنَ رَجُلَيْنِ وَرِجْلَاهُ يَخُطَّانِ فِي الْأَرْضِ حَتَّی دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ حِسَّهُ ذَهَبَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ يَتَأَخَّرُ فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَجَائَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّی جَلَسَ عَنْ يَسَارِ أَبِي بَکْرٍ فَکَانَ أَبُو بَکْرٍ يُصَلِّي قَائِمًا وَکَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي قَاعِدًا يَقْتَدِي أَبُو بَکْرٍ بِصَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسُ مُقْتَدُونَ بِصَلَاةِ أَبِي بَکْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ

Narrated `Aisha: When Allah's Apostle became seriously ill, Bilal came to him for the prayer. He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer." I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Abu Bakr is a softhearted man and if he stands in your place, he would not be able to make the people hear him. Will you order `Umar (to lead the prayer)?" The Prophet said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer." Then I said to Hafsa, "Tell him, Abu i Bakr is a softhearted man and if he stands in his place, he would not be able to make the people hear him. Would you order `Umar to lead the prayer?' " Hafsa did so. The Prophet said, "Verily you are the companions of Joseph. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer." So Abu- Bakr stood for the prayer. In the meantime Allah's Apostle felt better and came out with the help of two persons and both of his legs were dragging on the ground till he entered the mosque. When Abu Bakr heard him coming, he tried to retreat but Allah's Apostle beckoned him to carry on. The Prophet sat on his left side. Abu Bakr was praying while standing and Allah's Apostle was leading the prayer while sitting. Abu Bakr was following the Prophet and the people were following Abu Bakr (in the prayer).

عَائِشَةَ ← الْأَسْوَدِ، ← إِبْرَاهِيمُ: ← الْاَعْمَشِ ← أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ← قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ مَالِکِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ انْصَرَفَ مِنْ اثْنَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ أَقَصُرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ نَعَمْ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَصَلَّی اثْنَتَيْنِ أُخْرَيَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ کَبَّرَ فَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ

Narrated Abu Huraira: Once Allah's Apostle prayed two rak`at (instead of four) and finished his prayer. Dhul-Yadain asked him whether the prayer had been reduced or whether he had forgotten. Allah's Apostle asked the people whether Dhul-Yadain was telling the truth. The people replied in the affirmative. Then Allah's Apostle stood up, offered the remaining two rak`at and then finished his prayer with Taslim and then said, "Allahu Akbar." He followed it with two prostrations like ordinary prostrations or a bit longer.

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ← أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ السَّخْتِيَانِيِّ، ← مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ← عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ صَلَّی النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَقِيلَ صَلَّيْتَ رَکْعَتَيْنِ فَصَلَّی رَکْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet prayed two rak`at of Zuhr prayer (instead of four) and he was told that he had prayed two rak`at only. Then he prayed two more rak`at and finished them with the Taslim followed by two prostrations.

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ← سَعْدِ بْنِ إبراهيم ← شُعْبَةُ ← أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ،

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِکُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي مَرَضِهِ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ قُلْتُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَکْرٍ إِذَا قَامَ فِي مَقَامِکَ لَمْ يُسْمِعْ النَّاسَ مِنْ الْبُکَائِ فَمُرْ عُمَرَ فَلْيُصَلِّ فَقَالَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ لِحَفْصَةَ قُولِي لَهُ إِنَّ أَبَا بَکْرٍ إِذَا قَامَ فِي مَقَامِکَ لَمْ يُسْمِعْ النَّاسَ مِنْ الْبُکَائِ فَمُرْ عُمَرَ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ فَفَعَلَتْ حَفْصَةُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَهْ إِنَّکُنَّ لَأَنْتُنَّ صَوَاحِبُ يُوسُفَ مُرُوا أَبَا بَکْرٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ لِلنَّاسِ قَالَتْ حَفْصَةُ لِعَائِشَةَ مَا کُنْتُ لِأُصِيبَ مِنْکِ خَيْرًا

Narrated `Aisha: the mother of the faithful believers: Allah's Apostle in his last illness said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer." I said, "If Abu Bakr stood in your place, he would not be able to make the people hear him owing to his weeping. So please order `Umar to lead the prayer." He said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer." I said to Hafsa, "Say to him, 'Abu Bakr is a softhearted man and if he stood in your place he would not be able to make the people hear him owing to his weeping. So order `Umar to lead the people in the prayer.' " Hafsa did so but Allah's Apostle said, "Keep quiet. Verily you are the companions of (Prophet) Joseph. Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in the prayer." Hafsa said to me, "I never got any good from you."

عَائِشَۃَ اُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ ← أَبِيهِ ← هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، ← مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ← إِسْمَاعِيلَ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِکِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَالِمَ بْنَ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَتُسَوُّنَّ صُفُوفَکُمْ أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ وُجُوهِکُمْ

Narrated An-Nu`man bin 'Bashir: The Prophet said, "Straighten your rows or Allah will alter your faces."

عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ← شُعْبَةُ ← أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَقِيمُوا الصُّفُوفَ فَإِنِّي أَرَاکُمْ خَلْفَ ظَهْرِي

Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Straighten your rows, for I see you from behind my back.'

اَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ، ← عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ ← عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ ← أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ ابْنُ أَبِي رَجَائٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِکٍ قَالَ أُقِيمَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِوَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ أَقِيمُوا صُفُوفَکُمْ وَتَرَاصُّوا فَإِنِّي أَرَاکُمْ مِنْ وَرَائِ ظَهْرِي

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Once the Iqama was pronounced and Allah's Apostle faced us and said, "Straighten your rows and stand closer together, for I see you from behind my back.'

اَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِکٍ، ← حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ← زَائِدَةُ بْنُ قُدَامَةَ، ← مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ← أَحْمَدُ ابْنُ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ،

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنْ مَالِکٍ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الشُّهَدَائُ الْغَرِقُ وَالْمَطْعُونُ وَالْمَبْطُونُ وَالْهَدِمُ وَقَالَ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي التَّهْجِيرِ لَاسْتَبَقُوا وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي الْعَتَمَةِ وَالصُّبْحِ لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ لَاسْتَهَمُوا

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Martyrs are those who die because of drowning, plague, an Abdominal disease, or of being buried alive by a falling building."

أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ← اَبِیْ صَالِحٍ ← سُمَيٍّ ← مَالِكٍ، ← أَبُو عَاصِمٍ،

وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي التَّهْجِيرِ لَاسْتَبَقُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي الْعَتَمَةِ وَالصُّبْحِ لَأَتَوْهُمَا وَلَوْ حَبْوًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَوْ يَعْلَمُونَ مَا فِي الصَّفِّ الْمُقَدَّمِ لَاسْتَهَمُوا".

And then he added, "If the people knew the Reward for the Zuhr prayer in its early time, they would race for it. If they knew the reward for the `Isha' and the Fajr prayers in congregation, they would join them even if they had to crawl. If they knew the reward for the first row, they would draw lots for it."

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّی اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا عَلَيْهِ فَإِذَا رَکَعَ فَارْکَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا رَبَّنَا لَکَ الْحَمْدُ وَإِذَا سَجَدَ فَاسْجُدُوا وَإِذَا صَلَّی جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا أَجْمَعُونَ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّفَّ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ إِقَامَةَ الصَّفِّ مِنْ حُسْنِ الصَّلَاةِ

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "The Imam is (appointed) to be followed. So do not differ from him, bow when he bows, and say, "Rabbana-lakal hamd" if he says "Sami`a l-lahu liman hamidah"; and if he prostrates, prostrate (after him), and if he prays sitting, pray sitting all together, and straighten the rows for the prayer, as the straightening of the rows is amongst those things which make your prayer a correct and perfect one. (See Hadith No. 657).
